Trace Run On Through Pads

Hello.

I have a question on trace sizes and pads.

I am trying to use as big of a trace as possible given the size of the pad.

When I run the trace form pad to pad, the trace runs a little beyond the other side of the pad.

Will this also be present on the PCB as well?

Or will the trace stop at the pad connection?

I'm referring to the trace head between the pad and the vias on all accounts.

Hi RCBakerBorn,

The generated manufacturing data (Gerber, ODB++, etc.) will be identical (what you see is what you get) which is the desired behaviour. There should never be any differences between the design data and the manufacturing data. I would suggest making the traces width smaller or the pads bigger so when you connect the traces point to point the end-caps are completely inside the pad's outline if this is what you need.

I hope this helps.

Kind Regards,

Hello @RCBakerBorn,

Just to add to @constantin.popescuXD3CL 's comments. In Fusion 360 Electronics flat ends for the traces are supported which would solve the issue here. Just select the trace and in the Inspector set cap to flat.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hey Jorge,

Thank you for your input.

I did set the trace cap to flat and retried. It still had a rounded cap.

However, when I set both Trace cap and join type to flat, this works.

Thank you.

One more question, could you please pass on to the team, while inside the same project, when settings are changed they remain? I set the trace cap and joint type to flat but when I switched to another part of the PCB project and went back to the manual trace again I had to recheck the flat type on both trace cap and join types.

I can understand that they default back to "standard" settings once the project is closed and reopened, but having to change the settings every time while in the same project is a little bit of a time waster. Not to mention it could cause unwanted issues later on in the project.

Thank you.

Hey Constantin,

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately making the traces, while possible is not ideal. However, Jorge's follow up to this post helped to solve the issue.

Thanks again.
