Tabs Don't Work + Crash

Hi Fusion Team,

I was excited to see on YouTube that the tab management was going to be improved but they were behaving weird. I just did the newest update today and they're still weird. Sometimes the tabs persist, sometimes they don't, sometimes the whole width of the info window resets, and sometimes the whole thing just crashes. Help? Screencast below.

I've passed this along to the developer responsible for tabs. Thanks for the video.

I think the issue here is that the command dialog (move, rotate, route, etc.) got included with the other panels that's why when you open a command it messes up the tab setup you did. I'll let the dev look through it but I have a feeling that was not intentional.

What I would recommend for now is to activate a command (any command) once the tab shows up in the right panel, pull the command dialog tab out of it. In Fusion, those command dialogs are meant to be free floating since they close whenever a command ends. That may have led to the crash.

Ok. To clarify though - the tabs weren't persistent even without putting the command windows in there.

@jorge_garcia - I fiddled with this a bit more and have good news and bad news. The good news is that you seem to be correct. Once I removed the floating dialogs (e.g. move, route, etc.) out of the tabs - the tabs persisted as I'd expect.

Unfortunately, the result is dialogs that I am constantly moving because they pop up right in the work area. For example, see the attached screencast where I relocate the move dialog to my other monitor, only to have it popup right back in the way again a few moments later. In addition to being a bit annoying, I often can't use the move command at all since the dialog is now blocking the part I'm trying to move so I need to pan the work area or move the dialog every time I need to do something as simple as a move or route command ... which is ALL THE TIME.

Hi Scott, 

Thanks for sharing your using experiences and issues to us with detail descriptions and videos. I could recreate the crash,  the tabs issue as well as the relocated panel. All of them were reported to our development team.

Before there is fix for them, could you please try below workaround to see if the crash and the relocated panel could be not so annoy?

• I found the key step to recreated the crash was,  I had to press ESC to quit move while its command panel in back, so you may try to close move panel when it's on top of the tabbed panels to avoid this crash
• If the move panel is docked, it won't be relocated by invoking other commands that showing command panels.

The crash was a one-time thing that happened but I'll keep your first note in mind. As for your second note, I'm not sure I understand. In his earlier post, @jorge_garcia mentioned that I should keep these dialogs out of the docked area. Can you clarify?

For the record - I would much prefer to have them docked so they're there if I need them but less intrusive.

The problem with having that dialog docked is that every time you close or open a command your panels will change and resize because every command has different options. This means they will never really stay put.

Now your original solution of moving it to another screen should work but I get a feeling it doesn't because of the temporary nature of this dialog. Sally has already reported the issues you are running into.

My personal recommendation for now would be not to dock it because it's going to shift everything around with the constant opening and closing.

Yes, you are right, the crash is one time issue and can be prevent by not touching some key points. I've reported it to our development team.

For the second relocated floating panel issue, I think it's annoy too when it often covers your canvas and need to be moved away every time. Docking this kind of temporary panel can fix it in a certain place, but as @jorge_garcia said, it's not a good solution as it will make the panel opening & closing unexpectedly. 

So my suggestion is, how about collapse your panels on the left/right to make your canvas bigger, then this temporary panel won't cover too much of you designs when it's keep in right. If you want to use/check the info of a collapsed panel, you can simply move your mouse onto it or expand them once you need. 

Please note, as the collapsing panel is only enabled for stack panels so far, you probably need to "convert to stack"(from 3-dot menu of panel) first and then collapse the panels. 

This kind of docking panel is a new feature of our last update. Although there are several issues and the using experiences also need to be improved, we will keep fixing the issues and improving the using experiences in future updates to make it easy to use. And we really appreciate your suggestions and feedbacks over it. Thanks!
