Symbol pin name list?

Is there a better or more efficient way of naming pins, other than clicking on each one individually with the NAME tool selected. Can I view a table of pins and navigate with the keyboard?

Hi @duncanBC5DV,

I hope you're doing well. There isn't a pin table but there are more efficient ways to name pins. You can use the Pinarray command which will generate an arbitrary number of pins for you which you can name. You can pre name the pins as you place them. Finally, you can do a Smart Paste directly from a datasheet and it will create all the pins for you when you do a copy and paste.

Let me know if you continue to run into problems.

I used the pin array command already, how do I "pre name pins as I place them"? So far as I can tell, pin array command will generate a bunch of pins and give them generic names like P$0, P$1, etc.

Then I need to click each pin individually using the name command.

Smart paste sounds workable I guess, it's just a bit awkard to do all the work in Excel, then paste it in and do more work in Fusion. I will try it.

However, I think what I want can be accomplished in the "Inspector" tab with some effort put into it.

If a single pin is selected, the "inspector" tab allows you to change the pin's name. When multiple objects are selected, they all show up in the "Selected objects" section, and I can select individual objects out of those selected, and change some properties associated with each pin, such as position, direction, function, etc, but not the name, which seems to be an oversight.

Ideally, I would be able to edit values directly in the "Selected Objects" table, and navigate that with arrow keys, so I could eg, select the top pin, maybe double click on the name field, it becomes editable, enter a new name, hit Enter and it goes down to the next line, the name column stays as the active cursor point, hit Enter to edit, input new name, hit Enter, repeat until the end of selection.

This is the kind of productivity required to use the product regularly for EDA work.

Hi @duncanBC5DV,

I hope you're doing well.  You pre-name pins by activating the PIN command and then in the command line typing 'nameofpin' and pressing enter. If you have a number on the end of nameofpin then as you click it will automatically increment so if you type 'D0' after you place D0 if you keep clicking it will place D1, D2, D3, etc.

Smart paste doesn't require Excel, it's more powerful through a spreadsheet but it's not a requirement.

The Inspector is designed to only modify common properties of the selected objects. With that said, I agree with you the table is right there, we should be able to edit it there.

I'll make a ticket for this.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.
