Schematic vs. Board: Difference in Net Classes

I seem to be seeing a different view of the Net Class members, depending on whether I have the Schematic editor or the Board editor open.

See attached images, which clearly demonstrate the problem viewing the 'Power' net class.

Schematic View: 5 nets listed

Board View: 8 nets listed

This results in the schematic / PCB losing sync.

Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug?

Hi @mphatak68 ,

I hope you're doing well. It's likely that you lost consistency before you saw the issue in the netclasses. Go to the schematic and run the ERC, if schematic and PCB have lost sync it will let you know what the inconsistencies are. Those must be corrected before you continue working. In order to avoid this in the future make sure to always have the schematic and board tabs open.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hi Jorge

1. That is just the problem. When I run the ERC it says the SCH and BRD are consistent. And yet I see different Nets under the same Power class depending on which view I open the dialog.

2. My SCH and BRD tab have ALWAYS been open at all times.

3. Running a DRC in the BRD view only shows me errors in the Signals (such as clearance, stop mask, etc), not errors in the Nets themselves. Kind of what I expect to see anyway, since I have not started routing yet.

4. While in the BRD view, when I try to repair the Net Class configuration so that it matches the SCH, it then gives me an error and breaks consistency. See attached image.

5. Does it even make sense to launch the Net Classes dialog while in the BRD view? Surely what I am looking at in the BRD are Signals, not Nets?

6. Secondly, I have noticed that changes made to the Net Class configuration while in the BRD view do not sync back to the SCH view correctly. Can you repeat this issue?

I fear I will need to bin the BRD file and start again unless I can successfully repair the SCH / BRD files.

Any help much appreciated.

Manoj

Hi Jorge

I have repaired the SCH and BRD files now, but I have noticed a discrepancy between the Net Classes dialog and the actual Nets present in the design.

Please see attached file "F360-NetClasses-Issues.pdf":-

p1. shows an example net called 'VDD-PIC', present both in the Design Manager browser and on the schematic

p2. shows the Net Classes dialog ('default' class) with no mention of the net 'VDD-PIC'

p3, p4 and p5 . These show there are no nets in the Power, HighVoltage and Signal classes, so 'VDD-PIC' is not here

p6. shows no ERC errors or consistency issues, indicating that the SCH is internally correct

Conclusion: It seems the Net Classes dialog is not showing the net 'VDD-PIC' at all.

I should point out that I am using Modules in this design, and yet I see no module designators in the Net Classes dialog, indicating it may not have been ported across correctly from the original Eagle source code.

Finally, I see that the Design Manager Browser does identify Net Classes and their Nets with the correct designation, but the information does not match the Signal classes in the BRD view.

I hope this helps to isolate the issue, if indeed it is a bug. If I can provide any further information, please let me know.

Manoj
