PCB Editor Slow with Large Design

I am trying to improve performance in the Fusion Electronics platform.  I have disabled 'Live DRC', set the mode to ignore violators, turned off pour polygons with ratsnest, and checked 'Limit effects to optimize performance.

When I move a component connected to a ground net which has about 1600 vias the moving is very slow. I suspect it has to do with the ratsnest call happening with the component move. If this is the case I would like to be able to turn off the automatic ratsnest and only recalculate when requested.   Is there anything else I can do to increase performance of just moving parts/ vias on the board?  The editing was considerably smoother in Eagle.

Thanks

Hi @Anonymous,

I hope you're doing well. There is currently no option to disable the automatic ratsnest but it's not a bad idea to explore.

@HelenChen-ElectronicsQA Could this be flagged as an enhancement request for Fusion 360. Having the option to switch off the automatic ratsnest might help performance.

Hi @Anonymous ,

Sorry to hear that you're having trouble.

Is there a 3D PCB linked to the 2D PCB file? If there is, you could try to break link of the 3D PCB file and try again.

Additionally, do you mind to send your schematic and board file to me to double check before I log a ticket? I'd like to try this too.

I will send private message to you with my email address. Thank you.

Regards,

Helen

I found a solution.  It appears that if you hide air wires for nets which have large numbers of connections you can gain some significant performance improvements.  It appears that fusion will skip that net completely during the ratsnest call.  I often hide air wires for ground and power during placement anyway as it can create clutter on signals that will fan out anyway. I will just keep then hidden until running DRC.  Thanks

Hi @Anonymous ,

Wow, you are so smart!

Thank you so much for the sharing!

I tired your way to hide the GND airwire, it does very fast to move your device now. Cool!
