PCB 3D dialog show incorrect list of missing 3D packages.

When clicking "Push to 3D PCB", you can click "PCB Components" to show a list of components on the board.
A "warning" icon, will show components with missing 3D packages.
This list is TOTALLY incorrect.

The example picture show how the board are missing 3D packages for IC2 and L1, although, they render fine on the 3D PCB view.

On a larger board I have, I see more than 20 missing 3D packages, but it all render fine.

Hi, @jesper8W75R

Did you add these devices from 2D PCB directly?

If not, Would you please share the electronics design file with us for investigation? That would be very helpful!

Thanks in advance,

-Yiqiu

No, these were added the "normal" way in the schematic.
This should not be difficult for you to recreate, it happens with all my boards, it seems.
Some have 20-30 "missing" models, but render perfectly.

I will see if I can set up a share, but as I told you in the other "footprint only" thread, this requires me to move around a lot of files as your system does not support sharing of folders.

I added a board example in the Bug Tests project that you have access to: "Incorrect list of missing 3D packages example".
That board claims that 28 packages are missing, but renders 100% fine.
I have several other boards where the same thing happen.

Hi, @jesper8W75R

I have checked several devices that are shown as warning status in the PCB component list. All of them ate rendered as default boxes in 3D PCB.

In the PCB component list, we detect the existence of package urn to show the availability of the 3D packages, since checking local file provides the best performance velocity. This means all devices that contain 3D package added from the schematic would be shown as checked status in the list. And devices that don't have 3D package urn would be shown as warning status in the list.

From my side, I see most of the packages are rendered as default boxes in 3D PCB. Maybe the result is different from your side. because I have no access to 3D models, they locate in a different folder for which I have no permission.

Thanks,

Yiqiu

Thanks for looking at this.
I don't know anything about urns. Neither do I want to know.

I simply make a design, the way it is supposed to be made.
1. Add device in schematic
2. Move into place on board and route

3. Generate 3D PCB

Going from 2 to 3, I get the long list of "missing" 3D packages, which are not at all missing.
My board is shown, populated to 100% with packages.
I have a screencast, but I do not know how to send you the link. It does not work to send private messages to Autodesk employees, it seems. (clever move).

I don't know why this happens, but I know you have a bug in Fusion.
Also, it does not really matter if you can recreate it or not.
It exist as a problem here and needs to be solved in some way.

I'm a bit tired of Autodesk support (not you), that tries to wave everything aside, saying "Oh, we cannot recreate that", so we will mark your super annoying bug as "Closed - unconfirmed", despite me showing screencasts to the contrary.

Hi @jesper8W75R ,

I think I understand what's going on. All components have models what the list is trying to show you is what components do not have a custom 3D package, IOW which ones are just the rectangle.

We could maybe make the UI more explicit, but I don't think this is a bug. The intent of that list is to tell which components don't have a user specified 3D model.

Coming up with an explanation as to what goes wrong is great.

But in this case, it sounds like an excuse for the fact that Fusion doesn't work as expected.
I insist this IS a bug.

I added these components to my library the "official" way.
There is nothing special whatsoever to them, they are all in my 3D Model folder, both original STEP models and the Fusion version complete with footprint sketch.
And I can edit them at will.
And they render just fine.
Everything is just dandy until I drop down that list. That is the ONLY place where things suddenly "don't work".

ALL my devices have 3D models.
Not specified with  "Add Custom 3D Model", but properly added in the library.
The list IS INCORRECT!

Hi, @jesper8W75R

We can dig a bit deeper to investigate the problem. However, this needs you to give us access to 3D models used in your design. If you can reproduce the problem easily, Would you please create a simple electronics design and include all design files used in the folder that has been shared with Alina and me?

Thanks,

Yiqiu

I have to figure out what files you would need to have everything. It is seriously confusing.
I will try, when I get time. I have other bugs to report you know.
Not to mention trying to make some REAL work.

Hi @jesper8W75R,

I hope you're doing well. Looking at the picture you posted did you really assign a 3D model to the antenna? What that list is supposed to show as not having a 3D model are the components that still have the default rectangle. If the default rectangle is being used the list will flag it.

Yiqiu will confirm if my understanding is correct, if it is, then this is more of UX issue that requires improvement.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

The antenna is the only component that does not (normally) have a 3D model. In this case it has, see below.
ALL other have 3D models, and as I have said multiple times, EVERYTHING RENDERS FINE.
So, the list is incorrect.
Simple as that.

Now, WHY the list is not correct is something you can discuss over and over at Autodesk, I don't care WHY.
I am simply informing you, as usual, that you have a bug.

Also, it is stupid that you cannot have a device without a 3D model (remember the other discussion about fiducials, mounting holes e.t.c.?)
The antenna is a prime example. It is a PCB antenna, there IS NO 3D MODEL!
But, I can't do that, without getting a stupid rectangle block.
So, what I did is to make a tiny 3D box, and "hide" it "inside" the PCB. This has been working fine since the old EAGLE days, where 3D models were introduced.
There should be a way to make or indicate a non-existent 3D model.

I don't even know why I have to repeat myself again and again with this bug.
I served you the proof of a bug on a silver platter, screenshots, screencasts, files.
List say NO 3D MODEL, but everything renders.
What else do you want?
Why do you keep asking - did you do this?, did you do that?
Why do we have to argue like this every time I find a bug.
I have 50+ cases in your support system, 13 are open, most of the others closed with, "Change Request" pending.
And only a couple of them have been solved during the last year.
I f* don't have time for this!

Yeah, Nowadays component list in Fusion is almost the same as the previous component status dialog in EAGLE when pushing/pulling from Fusion. And missing status devices would be rendered as default boxes.

There is UX issue that requires improvement. We could consider raising this to UX. However, it might not be a high-priority task.

No, nothing ever seems to be of priority to you.
Except adding new features. Or change the logo, ooohhhh, so important.

How about FIXING SOME BUGS before you start to add MORE BUGS?

@yiqiu.han You also come with some excuse/explanation, that this is almost as it was in EAGLE.
What do I care?
I just want it to work, in FUSION!

I want FUSION to work and not be filled with a sh*tload of bugs, so I have to spend half my day figuring them out or reporting them.

Is that really too much to ask for the money I pay?

Hi @jesper8W75R,

Like we spoke today in the community conversation, this is being addressed and the dialog will be improved shortly. Thanks for reporting it and for the feedback.
