Modifying library component and getting incorrect rotations when placed on PCB

So I made a copy of a model. I changed some rotations of some of the parts. I modified some of the pins. Basically what I did is I took a TO220 package and rotated it so it will lay flat against the PCB and made bent legs.

In the library and the part editor it looks good.

When I update the library in my schematic, I go to the board editor. I switch to the 3D view. And the parts don't come in properly. There's probably some error message that I'm missing but they're all disabled and when I enable them the body of the package is correct but the pins and the heat sink are all at a bad rotation.

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this?

@jorge_garcia any thoughts on this problem? It's kind of a bit of a showstopper for me.

Hi @rg.jones,

Have you tried the Capture Position command in the 3D package editor?

It is located at the very end of almost all ribbons, but certainly on the SOLID ribbon. Probably selecting the root component and then issuing this command is the trick, but you may need to experiment a bit.

Best regards,

Paul

@pal.szabo hey, I tried that. I went into the part editor. There was a capture position. I selected the heat sink that had the bad rotation. I added that position, captured position, saved it, updated everything. Still the same problem. Also went back, selected the highest level part, moved it slightly, selected capture position, saved it, updated everything. Still the same problem. What's odd is that every time it gets pulled into the PCB, all those parts with the messed-up rotation are automatically disabled so they're not even viewable. I have to enable them with the eyeball to view them and that's when I see the rotations are still messed up. It knows there's a problem with these parts when it imports them and chooses to not display them but also not give me any kind of error. Definitely some kind of bug, at least related to the way I've updated these parts. I think I'll open a ticket.

Hey @rg.jones ,

I hope you're doing well. The key part happens in the package editor. Double check the placement of the 3D model relative to sketch that shows the 2D PCB footprint. Make sure the view cube is in default view since that will help make sure things are oriented properly.

If you can post an image of how that looks that would help.

Hello, @jorge_garcia you can see from the screenshot above that everything looks good in the library/package editor. It's only when the model is being placed on the PCB in the 2D schematic view. The body is being oriented correctly and the other parts are not. I've opened a ticket and I am getting some help from Fusion Tech Support on this particular issue. They've made a suggestion and I'm going to try it now.

Just to confirm that changing from parametric modelling to direct modelling seemed to be an acceptable, at least to me, workaround. It allowed me to place the part correctly on my PCB. It was suggested I could go back to parametric modelling but I haven't tried that yet.
