Library system not understood

Please help. Are there any better tutorials or help guides to the library structure? I am having trouble understanding the descriptions in the "Product Documentation" through the '?' help icon.

I have been an AutoCAD user for 37 years (and ACADE for 9 years) and consider myself quite skilled with AutoCAD, but am having great difficulty in adapting to using Fusion 360 for 3D, and especially the libraries in the FE.

I need to correct a standard device in the included library 74xx-eu (its an IC - 74LS73 J-K Flip-Flop), it doesn't have any power supply pins and have tried adding them but can't seem to over-write the file.

Any help appreciated, thanks.

Historically, I believe that the library system is the weakest area in Eagle. It is simultaneously the very foundation of the EE design process, but it is also the weakest area of the software.

To gain some understanding of the basics, have a look at some of the videos I made a while back. The library GUI looks different in Fusion, but the concepts have not yet changed.

Hi Carlos,

Thanks for the response and the videos. I had never before heard of Eagle, so was initially very confused by the references to it.

I now have a much better understanding of how to create and modify parts, but FE still seems difficult to use, i.e.; I can't seem to delete some duplicate libraries that I accidentally created, the delete button is greyed out.. see attached snapshot

Also, I still can't figure out how to overwrite, or save a new part to the included library, it always seems to create a new library. There's obviously something I'm still not understanding, if you could clarify it would be most appreciated.  🙂

Hello @Anonymous,

I hope you're doing well. You always have to write assets into your personal libraries. The assets included with the FE are meant to be used as is or as reference material for your own personal libraries.

The component you mentioned isn't missing the power pins they are just hidden by default. You can bring them into the design by using the INVOKE command.

Deletion in Electronics is currently a bit difficult, especially if the parts are already in use by other designs. Temporarily you can archive the library that way it's at least out of the way.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Thank you Jorge,

After you have explained, it's all become very clear, but as a new inexperienced user, how would I have known about the "Invoke" command otherwise?

Your help is much appreciated and I am excited to further exploring FE360 capabilities.

I look forward to Autodesk making the libraries a little more user friendly in future releases.
