Issues on board definitions

Hi,

Congratulations to Electronics team that is doing an excelent job on improving and fixing bugs on Fusion Electronics.

Yet, there are some 'small' things that were not yet corrected and should be, and one that I think is very important:

On stack definitions, if I want to define a pcb with top silkscreen, top  finishing, copper layer, fr4 layer, copper layer and another fr4 layerand without bottom solder mask and no silkscrren or copper (assymmetrical layer configuration), I can't do it. I even can resolve copper layer by defining it to be 0,00mm (the system puts yet 1oz on "weight" column, wrongly.

We should be able to define an assymetrical pcb, with layers and thickness we desire.

By now thats all

Thank you,

MB

Hi Mario,

Thanks for raising this issue. It is indeed a problem because our implementation doesn't allow 0 layer thickness and for copper layers we only allow certain discreet values based on the most commonly used copper thicknesses (weights). I will add a ticket for allowing 0 thickness (weight) for copper layers. This is an edge case that we haven't thought about and the current validation constraints we have in place do no allow for it.

Hope this helps.

Kind Regards,

Hi Mario,

On 2nd thought and after trying it myself I think that what you want to achieve is actually possible. There is a trick required though because it looks like even if I switch to Non-Symmetrical Stack I cannot remove the Bottom Layer manually and this is unexpected. I thought this should be possible but it looks like there is an issue that needs fixing. This being said there is another way you can do this. Follow the steps below:

  1. Change the layer stack to non-symmetrical, toggle off the Maintain Symmetry check-box.
  2. Turn ON Edit material properties check-box.
  3. Run Open From Setup String... command from the presets combo-box and in the Get Setup String dialog enter the string 1.
  4. constantinpopescuXD3CL_0-1662417406991.png
  5. The Layer Stack will look like this: constantinpopescuXD3CL_1-1662417491945.png
  6. Delete the Top Solder Mask using the Right Click Context Menu.
  7. Then Right Click on Top signal row and select Insert Below / SignalconstantinpopescuXD3CL_2-1662417602909.png
  8. Now you should have the desired layer stack, there is no Bottom Layer and no Bottom Surface Finish, Solder Mask or Silk Screen.
  9. Please see attached the Preset that I have created with this stack for your perusal named: Mario.Brizida.CustomStack-non-symmetrical.estackup.zip.

Please let me know if this helps or if you have any issues following the above steps.

Hi Constantin,

Thanks for your support.

Yes, it works indeed. Good!

Yet, there's another small issue: I'm not allowed to change the properties of silkscreen, at least change the colour to white or black.

Is that possible?

Thank you,

Hi Mario,

"I'm not allowed to change the properties of silkscreen, at least change the colour to white or black." - this is still on our TODO list unfortunately. I hope we'll have time to tackle this one for the next bug fixes release. I have created a ticket for this.

Which are the most common colors used for silck-screen apart from White and Black if any others? Also what are the common thicknesses for Silkscreen if we are to support it?

Any input would be very much appreciated.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Hi Constantin,

Thanks for your very quick answer.

About silkscreen colours, I usually use black or white. I know nothing about the thickness.

A good approach in my opinion is to have the same options you have for instance for solder resist, where you have colours and thicknesses configurable by the user. If you want to make a standard list (that we could use our not), you can put there only black and white, but mantaining a user-configurable colour choice.

I look forward for the next upgrade.

Thank you once more,

Hi Mario,

Thanks a lot for all your sugeestions. I'll take them into account when support for Silk-screen materials is added.
