How to add pin number AND names to symbols?

New Fusion 360 user here.

Can someone explain to me how you do this simple task?

  1. I place a pin on a new schematic symbol and I want it to show Pin 1.  I ALSO want it to have a name, like AD0.  There's no provision in the properties for that I can see.   When I make the footprint I want the pin number to be on the pad, not the name because names can get long.

Just like in this example pic attached where the Pin no is 75 and the name is D25.

Any help is appreciated.

Already I am a bit unhappy with both documentation and technical support, if you call what they have technical support.   I entered a support ticket two days ago and not a peep since.  I used OnShape for years and I would get a tech support reply within 30 minutes and sometimes faster.  I guess I'm spoiled.

D25 is pin name. You can change pin name in library, while creating new symbol.
Number 75 is pad name from footprint. Symbol will display pad number when connected with footprint in library(devices - part where you connect symbol and footprint).
You can choose do you want to display nothing, pin name, pad number or both. Just edit pin in symbol.
Hope it helps.

Thanks for the help Silvio.      I ended up figuring this out myself after I began connecting the package pins to the footprint.  Still no help from tech support though.

Thanks!

Hi @MWDGUY,

I hope you're doing well. One thing you may want to try(if you are in the US, coming to other geos soon) is the live chat. That may give you more of the response times you are looking for.

Jorge,

Thanks for the feedback.   I did live chat first and the tech said he would have to enter a ticket for me.  That took 2 days for a reply.   I have resolved this issue already myself but have several more now surrounding the import of libraries.

Hi Scott, feel free to post questions here if I see it I generally respond pretty quickly. Just as something to keep in mind, this week is Autodesk University, Autodesks biggest show of the year and everyone is pretty backed up. That might explain a little bit of the delay you are seeing.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

The title of this issue is misleading. It asks how to add pin number but in the sample image in question the pin number has already been assigned. The replies say nothing about how you add pin numbers to a symbol. I'm still searching for an answer to that question. The video about creating symbols said nothing about pin numbers.

Hello @kevinPVNNL,

I hope you're doing well. When working inside the symbol editor, click on a pin and check it's properties. You'll see that there is an option called visible, if you want to see both the pin name and the pad numbers, set it to both. If you only want to see the pin names set it to pin, only pad set it to pad and if you want neither set it to none.

If you have both or pad active then you'll see the pad numbers in the component editor or in the schematic when you use the part.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

I have the pin property set to show both pin number and name. I don't know how to tell it the pin number. I added a pin to my symbol. I right click it and set the name to CLK in the pop up properties box. The symbol shows "out 0" at the circle end of the pin. That 0 tells me it doesn't know the number for the pin. I want to set it to be pin 5 but there is no entry in pin properties for pin number. Why is there no entry in the pin properties dialog box for pin number? That would be the simplest way to assign the number. When I add a footprint it would be able to automatically relate the pins in the symbol to those in the footprint based on the pin numbers of the symbol.

Hey @kevinPVNNL,

You have to make sure not to confuse pin vs pad. Pin is in the symbol and pad is in the footprint. Because a symbol can be assigned to multiple different footprints, the symbol editor will not show pads. You will see the pad numbers when you map the symbol to the footprint(s) in the component editor. I encourage you to review this series of videos for a step by step process.
