Hi Everyone,
We would like to thank you all for participating in the Fusion 360 electronics forum. Your question and answers help us provide better support and build a better product.   We recently did take a look at some of the most frequent questions asked in this forum. We did get some valuable information from these statistics.  We notice that the most frequent questions were around libraries. It makes total sense; libraries and parts are the foundation of all electronic designs.  How to create them, assign 3D models and manage them. We have made a collection of videos on our YouTube channel that will answer or all of your questions regarding libraries.   I have compiled a list of them and wanted to share them with our Fusion 360 electronics community.

Video 1

Create your electronics parts in Fusion 360: Video 1 Electronics Libraries OverviewLibrariesOverviewThumbnailFinal.png

https://youtu.be/xNIEXCimRSg

In this video, we cover creating a library project to store your electronics libraries. We also cover how to create a new library from scratch.

Video 2

Create your own electronics parts in Fusion 360: Video 2 Making a symbol

https://youtu.be/-LWLXkMUcbk

In this video, we cover how to make a symbol for your electronics parts.

Video 3

Create your electronics parts in Fusion 360: Video 3 Making a footprint

ThumbnailFootprintFinal.png

https://youtu.be/8-tJZHFzWXo

In this video, we'll go over how you can make a footprint for your electronics components inside of Fusion 360.

Video 4

Create your own electronics parts in Fusion 360: Video 4 Making a 3D Package

Thumbnail3DPackageFinal.png

https://youtu.be/LlhIeRFX-N4

This video covers how to create a fully parametric 3D package using the package generator inside Fusion 360. We briefly touch on how you can use step models from other sources as well.

Video 5

Create your own electronics parts in Fusion 360: Video 5 Making a Device

https://youtu.be/2GVqwGs8qc8

In the final video of this series, we combine all of the assets we made in previous videos of this series to make a device we can use in our electronics schematics.

Additional Videos

Fusion 360: Managed and Team electronic libraries

https://youtu.be/2Os1RZU1ZgM

You will learn the differences between Fusion Team Libraries and Managed libraries and how they relate to each other. This will improve your understanding of how Fusion360 Electronics/ EAGLE libraries work.

Fusion 360: Importing Altium Libraries to Fusion 360

importingAltiumfiles.png

https://youtu.be/cLBUY22PcxA

The building blocks of all electronics are the libraries. Libraries will contain the component required for your design. Fusion 360 includes a large number of libraries made by our team and contributions from distributors and manufacturers.  In this video, you will learn how to import Altium Libraries into Fusion 360.

Fusion 360: Mapping STEP models to your electronic component Footprints

edquicktip1.png

https://youtu.be/w7GFaCYed30

In this tutorial, you will be using the Fusion 360 library editor to learn how to map 3D models to your electronic component footprints.

Follow this link you would like to review our Fusion 360 electronics YouTube playlist.

Best Regards,

Ed

making symbols, footprints and devices works reasonably well and the videos are ok.

3D models, however, apparently can only be made with the built in package generator.

which is ok, if the component fits one of the templates.

since the package generator follows an algorithm to produce a 3D model and a footprint,

and since F360 is available, please provide documentation and tutorial on how to build

a custom 3D model and footprint

You can import custom model from STEP.

One thing I'd love to see. Preview of 3D component on PCB.
For now, I see only 3D model and outlines of pads, but to see it full in 3D I have to create test project and add component to it.
Just add one button that will generate 3D preview on test PCB, like Altium when you press number 3.

Also, attributes should be per item, not per footprint.

i have used a few step models

and it has taken some effort and time to ensure the footprint and the 3D step are aligned.

it is not the same as building the footprint and 3D model at the same time

and it requires having a step model - unfortunately, some of them are little more than boxes
