Freezing and Crashing - normal?

Hello, I'm having a hard time using Fusion Electronics. It seems unstable and buggy. Today, it giftet me with about 5 crashes and a couple of hangs - all during simple activities. The worst thing seems that there's a random generator built in that allows for things to work as expected every once in a while, giving me new hope. Is this what other users see as well? I use an up to date macbook with plenty of memory, so that's probably not the issue. If anyone can recommend a shrink specialised in migration disorders (especially EAGLE to Fusion), please let me know.

Hi @davet322 ,

Much appreciated for your testing and detailed feedback.

When you met the auto recovery file missing issue, before force quit Fusion via Task Manager, did you happen to open 2 Fusion? Especially did you open the Fusion Insider build and Fusion Production build side by side?

I tried a lot to reproduce this issue today and I met this issue once indeed. That time I have 2 Fusion launched, when I was doing copy/paste, suddenly Fusion has no response that I have to force quit it. After relaunch Fusion, no auto-recovery file in the File menu, but in the Crash Recovery folder, I did able to see the backup files.

This looks like similar to what you observed.

I haven't found the reproducible steps yet be frankly, but I will keep trying.

Any more tips are much appreciated!

Thank you and hope you have a great day!

Best regards,

Helen

Hi @davet322 ,

Good morning.

We found there is a case that if there are multiple Fusion instances launched in the same machine and opened files in both Fusion instance to dirty them without saving manually, you may meet this issue if Fusion is crashed unexpectedly.

As you have observed that actually the auto-recovery file does exist in the CrashRecovery folder on disc, but not showing up in the Fusion File menu.

Before this issue is fixed, here we have below suggestion if you happen to meet this issue again in the future.

Workaround to recover the backup document: (You have found this)

  • go to the CrashRecovery folder of Fusion to find the backup file
  • unzip the backup Electronics files
  • find the extracted Electronics file there
  • then go to re-reference to the backup files as needed

Further suggestion:

  • We'd suggest not launch multiple Fusion instances but Electronics designs supports the MWMM (Multiple Window and Multiple Monitor) by dragging and dropping them out of Fusion.

Hope it helps.

Please feel free to let us know if your didn't launch multiple Fusion instances when you met that problem, then we will continue to find the other cases if any.

Much appreciated for all your great help and patience.

So sorry for any inconvenience once again.

Hope you have a great day!

Best regards,

Helen

I was only running one copy of fusion 360 at the time the crash occurred.  I normally only run one copy of fusion 360.  Fusion 360, did not crash yesterday, but I did save more often.

Workaround to recover the backup document: (You have found this)

  • go to the CrashRecovery folder of Fusion to find the backup file
  • unzip the backup Electronics files (they were not zipped,  I just had to rename the .bak file to .fsch)
  • find the extracted Electronics file there
  • then go to re-reference to the backup files as needed

I then just used file - open to open the lost schematic.  I am perfectly happy that I did not lose hours of work.

By the way I was unable to find a string search so I wrote a ulp script which I have attached.  I have found it useful on multipage schematics. You have my permission to publish this script as part of your product if there is no search function.

use

/run search xxx

where xxx is search string

Unfortunately Fusion 360 Electronics is not stable for me either and is slow and crashes often.  The team should focus all their efforts on bug identification and fixing.  This software is not ready for commercial use.
