I just want to import parts directly into my_library. As far as I can tell, the current workflow is this:
1. Download part.lbr file.
2. Open part.lbr file from Fusion.
3. Save part.lbr file within Fusion.
4. Open my_library.lbr.
5. Click "New Component".
6. Click "Import".
7. Find part.lbr in library list, click "Ok". (now part exists in two places)
8. Find part.lbr in Fusion files.
9. Delete part.lbr so it doesn't exist in two places.
When I click "New Component" I should have an "Open from my computer..." option to have the part.lbr file go directly into my_library, skipping all of the temporary saving and deleting of part.lbr into Fusion.
The same (but finickier and worse) workflow happens when I import the 3D model for the part. I have to import and save the STEP first before I can "use in current design". Then, if I don't break the link before saving the 3D model created by my_library, I will be stuck with the original import file FOREVER, because I can't delete a file that has ever been used in another file. (I had to create a ~Trash folder for corpses I can't remove because at one time they got linked to another file, but no longer are, but I still can't delete them. /end rant)
When I am in the 3D Model, I should just be able to import the STEP file directly into the 3D model without having to go through all of the save the STEP into Fusion first rigamarole.
