Enhanced Selection Menu Bug

OK. I hope this finds you well, but I have to say this has got me confused.

I have an airwire inside a wide 120 mil wire. There are several objects overlapping, and so I get the outlined arrow crosshairs and I need to use the menu to select the airwire so I can delete it.

As you can see in the video, as soon as I move the mouse cursor, the menu disappears. It does not matter whether I keep my cursor inside the selection menu or not, cursor movement makes the menu go away.

Hi @chris_cummingsDT,

Thanks for the video. Why are you so zoomed in? The existence of this little nub airwire indicates it wasn't possibly routed correctly. I would try just re-routing that segment.

However, for the selection issue you are presenting, go to the selection filter and make sure Airwire is highlighted. by default we disable it so you would have difficulty selecting if that isn't highlighted.

Let me know if you continue to run into problems.

Hello and thank you for the quick reply, @jorge_garcia !

I am zoomed in that far so you can see the very small and short airwire, LOL.

I am not sure why airwires would not be the Preferred object to select versus a disabled selection option, when the Airwire was what was being highlighted from the Errors selection I made. Seems like in that mode Airwires should be the ONLY thing I can select, or at least be enabled to be selected.

But that is not what the post is really about, right? It is a question about why the selection menu disappears upon any cursor movement. Is that because I was zoomed in so far?

Hi @chris_cummingsDT,

Fundamentally, the selection works by establishing a radius from the point clicked whatever falls within that radius is selectable. It then goes through priorities and active layer to determine what you were most likely trying to pick.  The radius internally is defined as a percentage of what's on screen so if you are really zoomed in it's very easy to miss what you are trying to pick when several items overlap.

You should be able to zoom out , make sure the airwire is an active option in the selection filter and then a right click near the location of the airwire will allow you to select it. Keep in mind airwires typically can't be deleted, so the solution here is really to route that airwire. Try using the QuickRoute airwire tool to clear it.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

So, it was the fact I was zoomed in so far. Thanks for the explanation, @jorge_garcia !

The Quickroute Airwire is something I did not know about, and I will Definitely use that going forward. This specific case was a stub trace left over from a previous Autoroute that was inside a wide 120mm wire, so it could just be deleted without a problem, once I was able to isolate it.
