Document attributes copying to component attributes

I've had an annoying issue for a while now in which the document attributes are copied into component/symbol attributes by Fusion. The particular context I'm dealing with is with attributes for sheet frames.

I have created a custom frame with several attributes in the docfield like ">AUTHOR", ">REVISION", etc. Once I add these frames to a schematic I use the "ATTRIBUTE *" command to bring up the document attributes. On several occasions I've noticed the following behavior:

  • The attributes will copy from the document level to the symbol level. This means that if I change the document level attributes they don't update in the symbol.
  • The attributes will copy from the document level to the symbol level but will also be set to an empty string, making it look like there is nothing in the docfield.

When these problems occur I have to to eat sheet manually, open the attribute window for the frame, and then delete each attribute one by one.

Hello @crefvem,

I hope you're doing well. Hmmm.... Have you tried zooming in and zooming out when you change the attributes? That forces the screen to be re-drawn causing the attributes to be updated.

If that doesn't work would you be able to do a screen grab of you reproducing the issue? If you could share a sample file that would be even better since it gives the developers something to test.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

I'll go through the general process and try to reproduce the issue:

  1. First, I open a new schematic and add the custom frame (Library attached for your inspection). At this point there are no attributes in the frame or in the document.

    crefvem_1-1694811040949.png
  2. Then I will add attributes to the document to fill in the title block.
    crefvem_3-1694811226313.png
  3. At this point I would expect the frame to update properly, but I see the following; note that the revision number is not displayed even after forcing the screen to update/redraw.

If I look at the component attributes I see that some of them copied over, but not all of them

  4. I can then fix things by right-clicking on the frame and choosing "restore position", which will then render the docfield properly.

After doing so, the attributes of the document now are mostly updated in the attributes of the frame. I believe the icons on the right are meant to show whether they're document or component attributes, but they're unlabeled and confusing to me (I've highlighted what I mean).

  5. Almost all my projects have multiple sheets on them and I'll usually make a second sheet and then copy over the frame. On the newly created sheet, only some of the attributes come over. I think these are the ones still referenced globally but they show up with no value and my docfield on the second sheet is not displayed properly.

  6. At this point the way to fix the problem is to delete all the attributes in the copied frame, and then do another "restore position" from the right-click menu.

I think that is about as thorough as I can be right now, but if you'd like me to try out anything specific I would be happy to.

PS, it's a bit irritating that I cannot upload a Fusion Electronics Library file (.flbr) to the Fusion forum for support. I'm forced to ZIP the file before uploading.

Hello @crefvem,

I hope you're doing well. Thank you for being so thorough, the only thing that occurs to me to try is to set revision number to just be 1 and not 1.0. I have this weird feeling that the period is messing with the way the attributes work.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.
