Default assembly variant error

Anonymous

Hello there,

I have  converted an Eagle project into Fusion 360 Electronics. I would like to modify some element in the schematic but when I press the Add command I got this error message.

How can I set the default assembly variant as mention in the message to be able to add some new elements in the schematic?

Many thanksError_message.png

Hi @Anonymous ,

I hope you're doing well. In the command line type:

VARIANT ''

and press enter

the '' are two single quotes. Not a double quote.

That should set you back to the default variant so that you can add parts.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hello Jorge, I have seen many of your videos and I can say I am a big fan!

You also helped me with this answer and it is much appreciated! however, now I have run into a new problem following this solution. When changing the variant this way I seem to lose information (the value and device name). I was hoping you would be able to help.

Thank you

Hi @Anonymous ,

I hope you're doing well. Variants are allowed to have different values and technologies among them. So if for example you make your design, create a variant and assign values to the variant those values only apply to that variant. If you switch back to the default, those values won't appear.

The best approach is to assign values on the default first and then create the variants from that.

Let me know if you continue to run into problems

I see. I think I was mistaken about placing new parts but I am still unable to update the library. The issue for me is occurring when I am linking to a schematic from eagle that is already a variant. Am I able/Do I have to, import the default variant from eagle as well in order to update the libraries?

Thank you

Hi @Anonymous ,

You can make changes to the library without touching a schematic design.  You might be mixing two things here. Are you trying to update your Fusion 360 Electronics design to use a new version of a library?

I've actually never tried updating a schematic while the variant is active. It should work but just in case in the schematic go to the command line and type VARIANT '' and press enter. '' is two single quotes, do not use a double quote.

Let me know if you continue to run into problems

Hello,

Yes I am trying to update to use a version of the library after I updated the 3D models. I am unable to update my libraries unless I do the default variant command as you have instructed. However this is when I run into the issue of losing all of my component values

Sorry if I have not been clear enough and I appreciate your assistance

Hi @Anonymous,

Unfortunately, you're going to have to re-insert those values there isn't much of  a way around that. If you take a screenshot of the value before switching variants it shouldn't be too difficult to re-insert the values.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.
