Convert to Poly in Layout

Hi,

I have been watching the excellent tutorials for schematic and layout, trying to follow along. Question...when selecting a PCB outline from the dimension on layer 20 to copy for a ground or power plane, when I right click I don't see the 'Convert to polygon'. Not sure what I am doing wrong.

Thanks for the help.

Hello @wayneweeks,

I hope you're doing well. Two things that could be going on. 1) The convert to polygon command does not work with circles. You can workaround it by using two arcs to make a circle. 2) The convert to polygon command can only work if you have a perfectly closed outline (no overlaps, no gaps). If you have an outline that is not a circle but still don't see the command make sure that the outline is perfectly closed. Often when this happens there is some small gap that you can't see so you have to use the inspector and check every segment of the outline to make sure all of the end points connect.

Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Thank you Jorge. Yes, it was a circle, trying to be too clever for my own good 😀. I changed to a square for now and there's no problem. I'll go back and try with a couple of arcs at some point. Really appreciate the quick response.
