Can't move PCB part in place

I've created a PCB board and dragged the 3D board into my new project.  One of the exciting features I saw in a video was the ability to move a PCB part location and have the PCB board layout adjust automatically.  This is the killer feature, as far as I'm concerned for prototyping my 3D printed objects along with my electronics layout.  However, it's not working for me.  As you can see in the video, it doesn't updating anything.  The result is that the moved part is in the right location but the PCB board layout is not updated.  Can somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks, Paul

Hello @paulelong ,

Currently we can only update PCB along with move outside of EIP (Edit in Place) environment. The reason is to update PCB layout, we must have the PCB document open. In many cases when the users are working with EIP, they just have the mechanical designs open. For example, I noticed from your video that you don't have the PCB document open.

I think we can improve it to make the feature available if PCB document is open.

Thanks @yqliu , I suppose I'm not clear on how I'm supposed to use PCB designs in my projects.  Should I be able to design an enclosure and move a PCB part around to fit?  Maybe I'm just not doing the right steps?

Also I tried to move the PCB part from the 3D PCB screen and that didn't work either.  I've included a new video below.  What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

Paul

Hi @paulelong ,

You need to select "Update PCB" (and "Reroute" if you want), then move the part.

In Fusion 360, the options in the command dialog tell the command how to execute. It has no effect if you change it after the execution.

Yes, a new design using the same elements does allow me to move and then automatically re-route.  So the error seems to be relevant.  How do I fix the error?  Do I have to start all over?  What if the error comes back again later?

Thanks, Paul

Hi @paulelong

I hope you are doing well!

I notice that this warning dialog show up when you move part in 3D PCB with the banner 'The 2D and 3D PCB documents are out of sync'.

Would you mind to click View 3D PCB in 2d PCB to make 2d PCB sync with 3d PCB?

Then the banner 'The 2D and 3D PCB documents are out of sync' will disappear. After that, you can try to Move part in 3D PCB.

Can you confirm if it works well for you?

If you still have problems, please leave your comment, thanks!

Regards,

Panpan Fan

@panpan.fan , you can see in the video I tried to go to the 2D view and open the 3D, then move though the message you mentioned isn't showing anymore.  But I still received the same error.  Am I doing this correctly?

Thanks, Paul

Hi @paulelong

I hope you are doing well! I have watched your video, and I think the actions you take is right.

So it maybe a bug issue for Fusion 360. Would you mind to export the whole Electronic Design to us?

In this way, our developer can track the root case of this issue quickly?

If you don't want to share your date publicly, you can send the Electronic Design to my email panpan.fan@autodesk.com if you don't mind.

Thanks a lot!
