BOM-generation for PCB-only projects

As there is no proper way of creating PCB-panels in Fusion, we have gone through a work-around of copy-pasting a design into a new board file.

This allows us to create a gerber outputs, but not the BOM, as the BOM generation requires a schematic file.

It is possible to export pnp files, but this file do not contain the part attributes.

We use a DNM attribute to select which components to ignore. We therefore need the attribute in any generated BOM or PNP list output file.

Is there a way of exporting a BOM or pnp-file from a board-only project with part attributes?

Thanks,

-Erik

Hi @erik.buerV95QJ ,

Thank you for your continued participation on the forums, you always bring good questions and suggestions.  The panelization workflow is something we want to formalize within Fusion 360. It's always been accomplished through workarounds even in EAGLE.

Since BOM generation is done through ULPs you could modify the BOM ulp to export a Bill of Materials based on the panel. If you don't want to go that route then you can consolidate the BOM's generated from the schematic and simply multiply the quantities for the number of boards that are on the panel.

Those are the two main options we can recommend at this moment.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Thanks for the nice words 🙂

When doing the board copy-paste workaround, new reference designators are assigned to components on the copies of the board, so i need a BOM from the panel file with the new reference designator and the DNM attribute.

Are the attributes included in the ODB++ file? If so, then i might extract it from there. If not, ill go through a ULP.
I'll keep you updated when i find a solution.

Hi @erik.buerV95QJ ,

I hope you're doing well. Before you make the copies run the panelize.ulp this will copy all of the reference designators as plain text to a new layer. In this way whenever you make the copies the reference designators will be the same. This will allow you to just multiply the BOM for as many boards as you need made.

I'm not sure about the attributes, but I'll ask one of our developers about this.

Hello! That's fine with the new layer, but the bom or the pnp is not using the references in that layer?. So, what is the point of having that layer? The manufacturing companies want the references in PnP and BOM file.
Is there a way of doing so?

I'm excited to share that we are currently testing an enhanced BOM experience in Fusion Insider. This new feature allows you to generate a BOM from both schematic and board files, with the added benefit of customizing which attributes to include.

If you have access to Fusion Insider, I encourage you to try it out and share your feedback; it would be greatly appreciated. We're always looking to improve and your insights are invaluable.

Hello @nedelchev_tihomirPFLGY ,

I responded to your other thread, currently the recommended approach is to generate the BOM and PnP files from the single PCB instance. The manufacturer can link the panel to this because each instance of the PCB in the panel has the same reference designators so everything would match.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.
