Best workflow to carry critical position information (and NPTH) F/B between mechanical and PCB layout ?

My first work with Fusion involved design of a PCB to fit an existing purchased part housing, and specifically having certain clearance holes, and discrete part locations for thru-hole connectors soldered to the PCB.  I thought initially I would simply put "marker" holes in my original PCB outline sketch.  But when I went to place the connector component, it would not allow it of course to center there and be placed.  Going back to the sketch, I removed the hole and instead added a center marker.  But in the 2D PCB, that does not show up to guide me.  So I try visually placing the connector on the PCB and then looking for a dimension or measure tool, which does not seem to exist in the PCB design environment tools.  How is it recommended to place NPTH - from the PCB layout side or the Fusion 360 sketch 2D panel?

The only work around seems to inspect the placed parts "pick" location x/y coordinates; jot them down, go to the sketch and read positions of what I want, or else make the sketch match where I placed it.

Seems like I am missing something important to everyone matching mechanical and electronic layouts.  Has this perhaps changed with edit in place just released?
