Back to Square 1... Again?!

Hello,

I was working on a project yesterday, from home, and when I tried to save it, it would not let me. It gave me the screen pop-up below.

Then I opened it up this morning and tried to open the project and it told me there was an update. Possibly why it was acting up yesterday?

So, I updated this morning to the latest release (see snippet below).

A few things after the update.

Upon startup, it keeps telling me the PCB file has new versions. Do you want to load the latest version?

No matter the answer, it loads the same way.

After the update, I restarted Fusion 360 and saw something troubling (see snippet below). The PCB looks like it's trying to update but will not.

So, I closed F360 and restarted my computer. No change.

When I try to open my latest project, it will not open without an error and it says to run an ERC check. When I click on the quick link, it says it cannot perform any forward or backward annotation.

I also can't save any updates to the PCB after making changes (see snippet below).

What is going on?

I honestly believe, with as many times as I struggle to be able to use this software for PCB creation, the updates are not Beta tested prior to release. It seems as though when one thing gets fixed, there are more issues that were not there before.

This software is a gamble as to whether it will work when I need it to. If my efforts using the software are to be a guinea pig, I need to be compensated.

Please help me and let me know how to fix this issue as my deadline does not change no matter how many days I lose trying to use this software.

Hi @RCBakerBorn,

I believe this is the second or third time you've run into this. How is your internet connection? I know you work sometimes in multiple locations. Do you make sure to close out your designs at each location?

It seems like there is some situation where a design is staying open or whatever machine you are using doesn't have a chance to cache the latest changes before you open Fusion.

Would you be able to give us more info about how you work with Fusion, how many different computers you work with? Anything at all can help us figure out what's going on.

Hey Jorge,

I have tried everything I know how to try.

I have logged out and back in, ran the repair, uninstalled, reinstalled, and still nothing is working. I have also restarted multiple times.

I work with Fusion 360 on two (2) different computers. One at work and one at home.

I was working with Randall and he logged out of the computer at work today and it now seems to be worse.

Now, I can't even get the program to open.

One more thing.

This is the first I have had issues with this software using my home computer.

All other issues were experienced with the work computer.

This is as of this morning.

I can't even open. I now get stuck on the web log-in.

So, I can't offer any log files.

Keep in mind, this is as of the latest update I went to as of Tuesday (this week).

How do I get back to the last version and download that?

I would like to give that a try.

I hope you're doing well. You can download Fusion by going to manage.autodesk.com clicking the Fusion entitlement.

I've reached out to the developers and here's what they are suggesting

Looking at the post it seems like on their work machine they have multiple users using the same machine.

1. For the identity manager dialog they have to click on open identity manager.
2. As to Fusion not opening the below is likely needed based on the error.

1. Close Fusion
2. Uninstall Fusion
3. Restart machine
4. Go to C:\Users\(username)\Appdata\Local
5. Back up the Autodesk folder (this is more for some safety )
6. Delete Autodesk folder
7. Reinstall

It will be also good to understand if their work computer workflow involves multiple users logging into the same Fusion install.

Can you confirm if you have multiple users logging in an out of the same Fusion install.

Thank you for the instructions.

I tried them in the order as you suggested.

I was able to open the software but when I clicked on sign-in, it would not open the web and allow me to sign in.

I'm glad you mentioned to save a backup of the Autodesk folder.

Without it, I could not sign in to Autodesk via the opening of the software.

I downloaded the saved copy of the Autodesk folder and I was able to sign-in.

However, I am still not able to save any changes to the project. No forward/back annotation between the schematic and PCB and the Team's my recent data still has spinning circles like it has updates but won't upload them.

I ran into this same issue at work but after closing and opening the software a few times, it would upload. 

The work computer we have the software downloaded on is shared between two users with different sign on credentials. The Fusion 360 software is on a  shared drive to that computer.

I think many of the problems we were having at work with uploading and downloading the projects has to do with work security, even though we have a stand alone computer.

That is not supposed to be, that's why we requested a stand alone computer.

Hey Jorge,

I am at work now.

I was able to figure out how to get the software version to update on the work computer.

I verified the update number to match my home computer of 2.0.1846

The older version was 2.0.18441

I still have the issue on the work computer as my home computer and that is the my recent data under the data panel still will not upload.

The PCB design is just spinning like at home.

I tried restarting the computer and software and no change.

Please help.

With it in this state, since 2/21/24 and the new update, I am not able to save changes and there is no forward or backward annotation between the schematic and the PCB.

I am now at home and logged back into Fusion 360.

I have opened the data panel and nothing has changed. It is still acting like it is waiting to upload the latest version of the PCB project.

When I open the project it tells me the linked PCB file has new version(s). Do I want load the latest version.

The same thing happens whether I click on Yes or No.

There is no Forward or backward annotation.

I also can't save any changes.

Below is a screen shot of the ERC results.

I do not understand why any of them are being set either.

Please help.

Hi @RCBakerBorn,

So the developers definitely believe that having a separate machine for each user will avoid all of the issues you are seeing. The fact that Fusion is also installed to a shared drive is another variable that could be involved in the issue.

Now based on your last post it looks like you are getting the files to open. So at this point you could venture to try to correct the consistency errors to restore consistency manually. You have 4 connection differences, easiest way to resolve it is by deleting the connections on both the schematic and the board. Then running the ERC to restore consistency.

Hey Jorge,

We figured out the issue.

You mentioned the ERC checks and clicking on them to view them.

When I click on the Validate tab, the ERC check is visible but there is also a synchronization tool as well.

I clicked on that tool and clicked on RUN inside the Synchronization pop up menu. When I did this, the PCB and schematic synced but then Fusion 360 locked up and crashed.

I reopened Fusion 360 and tried it again.

It made the changes and didn't crash. But it did erase the traces I had run to the connector pins I had called out.

I will need to rerun the traces but that is much better than having to redo the entire PCB project which is what I was getting ready to do today.

Jorge, can you give me the steps on how to get a saved copy of my work on my local drive?

I know when I try to work offline, it states to open up my project on my local drive and to upload changes later when I'm back online.

I do not see a project folder inside the Fusion 360 folder like I did with my Eagle version. 

Could you please help me to either find my projects on my local drive or help me figure out how to download them from the cloud so I have them to work on them offline?

Hello @RCBakerBorn,

I hope you're doing well. As you know Fusion predominantly works with cloud data. You can have a local backup of the data but Fusion won't really work with it.

PS In case a didn't mention it, the developers followed up and they said that Fusion is not designed to be run from a shared drive. So fundamentally, the root cause of the issues is multiple users sign in and out to the same install of Fusion 360 and running Fusion from a shared drive. If these two things are remedied you shouldn't run into the issues you've been experiencing.
