Adding components to the library

I need to design a schematic using a PIC processor and ULN 2803 (Darlington drivers) but cannot find either in the library. The PIC processors are, I believe, manufactured by Microchip but their data file will not download into the Fusion library.

How do I import the data for these ICs?

Still very illogical - I've got a subscription for Fusion, but gave up on it and am only using stand-alone Eagle.  Cloud is just far too-o slow, too-o expensive, and local library subject to corruption time and again.

I haven't found Fusion useful, but my staff use Inventor - which is a much better product.

And, another vendor's PCB design appears more reliable - I'm only staying with Eagle - at the moment - because I took the (considerable) time to learn how to use it for my purposes.

Hi

I now am using TEAM libs but changes done in the lib are not transfered to the project files in FUSION360. No glue what happens.

I have added one line in the tDocuments folder and saved the lib. I am not sure if there is some need for synching TEAMs. I see only library.io with buttons for pushing. Anyway a complete update tells me there is nothing to do and does not include my changes. What do I wrong? At the moment it takes really a lot of long-suffering to work with the new electronics FUSION360 appraoch.

Can you help? Is there some description how to edit parts in an existing design comming from EAGLE 9.x? I it possible to synchronise all the parts with TEAMS libs? If, how?

Regards, Harald

Having to make a known good part over again is a waste of time. Isn't there an easy way to add a part that was in an EAGLE library to one of the libraries in Fusion?

Hi @Anonymous ,

I hope you're doing well. If you go into the library manager, available tab you can install all of the default EAGLE libraries. Then you can copy content from those into your personal libraries for modification or use them as is.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Jorge,

very late question regarding this topic but I have searched and watched many videos but have been unsuccesful so far in finding the answer.

I have some parts I have created, some from scratch and some as edits of existing parts, they are stored in one of my online folders and I can see them in my data panel.  How do I access those parts for a schematic I am working on.  I can see no clear pathway for importing those parts in to my schematic.

sure hope you are still monitoring this old thread and can give me an answer.

Hi

First of all you need to tell the schematics that you want to USE this library. So go to the LIBRARY tab, select the first (Open library manager) In the LibManager you find tree tabs, choose available. First of all select all and do an UPDATE (bottom right) after this you have the newest versions of all available libs. In this list you should find your library, select it and click USE (bottom right) Than chech InUse tab if your lib is there. If yes quit LibManager.

Now back in Schematics choose DESIG tab and there in the place region you can find ADD PART. Click that , select your lib and choose the part you want to add.

I hope that helps a bit,

Harald

Hello HarrySatt,

@jorge_garcia

Thank you for your response and very clear instructions.  I have followed them but it appears my Library Manager does not find the Library folder I have made in my Data Panel.  Which is not surprising really as I dont know how the Manager would know to search my Data files but I had hoped it would.  I hope you can help me further.

I have created a folder in my Projects and called it something simple like LRV-Ecad-Library.  This is as suggested in a video by Jorge Garcia. When I edit an existing part and save it I can see it ends up in that Folder.  When i update all Available folders via the Library Manager that Library still does not appear nor does it appear in the In Use section.  I thought I may have made it "In Use" at  a prior time as I have been struggling with this process off and on for a few months.  In fact I am struggling with the whole general concept and interface of the Libraries like why I have so many Library Folders in the Available section and do i need them for my very limited scope of work and knowledge.

So I am still it seems unable to add a component from the Library as my Library manager doesnt give me access to it.

I am obviously doing soemthing wrong and probably very silly but not sure what and any help, ideas, suggestions you can provide would be very welcome.

regards

@HarrySatt @jorge_garcia

An update to my previous post.  I have realised now the Data Panel Folder I created is not actually the name of the Library but is the repository for Library created and stored in it.  So the Library I am looking for in the Manager is the name of the created/saved library I have in that folder.

Which then brings me to my next problem. Also in that folder is a a file for a PTH I edited in Fusion.  That part is just stored in the folder but is not stored in the Library that is in the folder.  How do I get it in there so I can then access it in my design?

Again I am sure it is something simple I am just missing.

Regards

@HarrySatt @jorge_garcia

Further information as I work through my dilema.  When I look at the edited part I now see a small arrow that gives a note that says" this Library has changes that have not been pushed to Library .IO. To do this go to the manage Toolbar"  OK so inthe Manage toolbar I have no option to push to Library.IO and if I remember correctly from a previous email the Fusionway is not to use Library.io but use Fussion Library.  So It isnt pushed and I cant push it.  Any suggestions Jorge??

Hi @leslieFRT9A ,

I hope you're doing well. You shouldn't need to worry about that warning if you haven't pushed anything to library.io

In the previous post you mention that you have PTH part. Would I be correct in saying that is a 3D model? If it is, then in order to use it follow the video on assigning 3D packages.

If you can post some images of what you are seeing that could help us further figure out what has gone wrong.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hello @jorge_garcia , thank you for your post and information.  My process for creating a new part has been:

1. Open Library and in the In Use tag find the library that contains a part I would like to alter.  In this case it is Sparfun Connectors.  Click edit

2. in the window that opens I id the part I want to edit in this case it is 01x1 pth

3. Rightclick and choose edit.  The parts schematic opens in a new window

4. Select the schematic, right click and choose Sketch this puts the drawing in to sketch mode and gives me some sketch controls to use

5. I choose circle and create a new circle for the hole in the size I want the new part to use. I delete the old hole outline

6. I click finish sketch - please see attachment -2.  In regard to the options "No" is not an option it just leaves me on the page and "yes" saves the package even if I dont want to save the package - in other words discard the edit so not very useful.

7. I am now back at the Library page with the two black arrows as shown in Sketch -1

8. The edited part is not available in any library I can find on my system and I imagine it cant be as it has not been pushed anywhere according to the info on the page.

Hope all that helps and you can let me know where I am going wrong.  Please note I am most interested in the part as it applies to a PCB board not the 3D version.  I will be sending the board to a manufacturer and the 3D version is not of any use to them although it is handy for me but mainly only in its size and general content so i can then import it into the design I am working on.

Regards

Hello @jorge_garcia,

I have had no success but huge frustration in trying to understand the parts editing process in Fusion Electronics.  AFrom my previous post you may be able to understand my processes - Ihope so anyway.

I have also now spent another fruitless 3 hours trying to undestand the the very simple task of taking an existing component, editing a couple of the components outlines and then having the new, edited part available for inclusion in a schematic.  I am either very thick or the system is very obtuse.  I prefer to think the latter.

I have attached a couple of images showing my libarary as it looks when I open it from the data panel and the same library when I access it to place a component.  For some reason they are different even though they are the same library.  I hope you can tell me why and what I have to do to get the part that is in the library available for adding to my schematic.  Failing that can you provide or give me a link to a description in simple terms that just edits a part from an existing library and makes the edited component available in the Add Component Library.

I am sure I am not the only one who is struggling with this.

Hope you can help.

Hi @leslieFRT9A ,

I hope you're doing well. Thanks for the images they help clarify part of the problem. The Sparkfun library is not owned by you so when it saves it will actually just save a separate copy of the lib with your changes. If you don't update the design to use this new separate copy then every time you go to edit the Sparkfun lib from your design you will actually be opening the copy you don't own and when you save it will create ANOTHER separate copy.  If I had to guess your probably have a few separate copies of the Sparkfun lib. Here are some best practices to keep in mind:

1. Don't try altering the libraries that ship with Fusion 360 copy parts you want to use into your personal library and make the changes there. That way you won't have to deal with the confusion of additional library being saved.

2. Fusion can not save library.io libraries directly so anything from library.io will be saved as a Team library. They are two separate and independent entities. Once a team library has been created make sure to update your design to use it.

Let me know if that make sense. I know it's a lot and we are working hard to simplify it.

but why do we have to do this nonsense. the previous eagle versions allowed using footprints. this is so idiotic as if we actually also had to manufacture the parts in the kitchen. these guys are retarded beyond hope

I've generated IC diagrams for schematics within the library of Eagle.

To add the 3D body representation, I use FreeCAD version 0.20 - takes a
little while to get the 'hang' of this, but the bodies look good on Fusion.

Of course, most parts can be downloaded from samacsys (press the Design Link
button on Eagle), and many (but not all) include the 3D design.

I've attached as couple of FreeCAD design files that I generated as they
were not available - the TSOP is of a surface mount IR receiver - you can
open these with a download of FreeCAD (but might need version 0.19) - you
would need to output these as step (.stp) files, to attach them the parts in
the Eagle library.
