Add 3D package to library without filling up data panel

I've tried to search for my problem without any luck.

Is it possible to update an existing library with an existing 3D package without another version of the 3D package being saved in the data panel?

I have a library with various devices, symbols, footprints and some 3D packages, and I would like to add some of the missing 3D packages. After I click on "Create new package", I need to save this new package before I can insert an existing model. This saves yet another model in the data panel, and with a fair amount of new packages, it gets quite crowded in there. I would like to have just the actual libraries shown in the data panel. When I have saved the new package, I can't remove the old, imported model either, because it's in use. Same if I create a new package in the footprint tab, a new entry in the data panel is created.

Hi @Stigoe ,

I hope you're doing well. Unfortunately there's no way to avoid those extra packages being created. What I do is I have a libraries project and inside it I have a 3D models folder. I save all of my 3D models there to avoid it cluttering up a project or the main data panel.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hi, Jorge.

Thanks for the answer, even if it was not the answer I hoped for... 🙂 Feature request?

Hi @Stigoe ,

For sure, it's already on the docket for the library work we want to do. I'll add this thread as evidence for the need.
