3D PCB hard crash and other hole issues since the latest update.

Hi all!

Has anyone else had issues since the last update this week.

3D_PCB-crash-2.jpg

Two days ago I started to get issues on my design

A. Sometimes the board in 3D view comes out blank, with no components. I redife the board in "Edit board", this fixes it temporarely, but components missing again.

B. Very long computing times (I have 2020 desktop workstation, it should be almost instant)

C. Now is just gives me hard crash when clicking 3D-PCB view.

D. Issue where the through hole components leave the holes behind without ability to remove them.

E. General sluggisness. When doing board layot, things feel very slow.

F. It says its computing 900+ pcb holes, I think I have about +-200 with via holes included. So thats not correct.

I don't know what to do, as the links between board, schematic, library, library.io and the 3D file seems to be so fragile. I don't want to start unlinking anything in fear losing my work.

I have not done anything different what I was doing last week, so don't understand what has happened besides updating Fusion360.

Here is the number of one of the (many) crash reports.

CER_230049751

Hope there is a fix to this as I have a deadline looming.

After last update I have like one crash per day. Only. It seems I am paid test rabbit of this scheisse, I mean They do not pay me that I am fighting with it, I pay them to be a test loser. Should not be otherwise..

So it is much better than before update , it is all because they do not handle proper libraries references. It is all about 3D. Protel 99SE had 3D view 20 yrs ago. With so pure hardware capabilities at that time! Now they eat GIGABytes of hard disk and RAM and they are able to produce crashing only..

Problem D - This also happened to me. It was only by a lot of coincidence that I found a work around: Remove the component from the schematic, insert a new hole in the PCB AND DELETE THIS AGAIN. Now the holes in the component can be selected again and deleted. I suspect a BUG here too.

I have not noticed any of your errors, however I do not use library.io at all. Only local and team libs. Regarding the responsiveness it works similar like before last update on my work machine I5 16GB Ram but I have GTX1050 plus Intel HD4600 video cards and I work on 3 displays, it is old machine. On my home even older PC I see it is slower, but this PC has win7 and Phennom cpu and 8GB ram.

Hi @phaggren

So sorry you meet the crash.

We fix a similar PCBHole crash about the PCB in the latest release build.

But since it still has some issues here.

Would you mind sending your file to my email address so that our developer track the root cause and fix the crash quickly? I will send my email to you as a private message.

Sorry again for all inconvenience!

Regards,

Panpan Fan

Hi @phaggren

As I know, a workaround of this crash is that you can draw a close outline in 2d PCB and view 3D PCB again.

For some precision issue, your outline of 2d PCB may be not closed.

You can have a try if you need a quick workaround.

And I have also sent my email address to you. Please have a look, thanks!

Regards,

Panpan Fan

Hi @panpan_fan

Thank you so much for contacting me. I have sent you the file to look at.

I tried your workaround solution this morning, but I still got a crash.

I managed to get the old 3D PCB view so I can view the error messages:

3D_PCB-crash-3.jpg

I have tried reselecting the body, but the issue is still there.

@Anonymous

Thank you for your work around. I tried this but I still get persistent holes. I removed to component but it still left behind holes what I cannot delete. @panpan_fan  Can you look at this the same time, these issues could be linked.

These are the holes I cannot delete on the left side of the board (I cannot show the whole board, sorry)

Thank you everybody for their help.

Hi @phaggren

Thanks for sharing f3z file to me.

For the delete holes issue, I can delete the holes directly.

I will send the deleted-hole 2d PCB back to you as a private message.

And I am not sure why you can't delete them. Maybe you can attach a video if you want.

When I delete the holes, then I don't meet crash when I view 3D PCB.

For the Hole issue left in 2d PCB when the device has a hole in footprint, it is a known issue and our developers are working on it.

Regards,
Panpan Fan

Hi @panpan_fan

Thank you for sharing the file.

I can see the holes are removed and the 3D PCB view is not crashing on this file.

The issue still persists on my main file using version 2.0.9313.

What @panpan_fan  suggested in a private message was to highlight the holes with a select tool to check if there are multiple entities on the same hole.

And that was the case,  all of the holes were duplicated about 20 times there.

I deleted the holes and I was able to create the 3D pcb succesfully.

Maybe when you press the 3D PCB button, it created new hole to the pcb with the though hole part and this was again fed back to the 2D pcb?

So if anyone else has holes you cannot delete, check if there are several of them.

Wow - looks like a Tag-Connect!? If this is true, I had exactly the same problem with a (self made) Tag-Connect 10 pin footprint.

@Anonymous

Keen eyes!

Yes that is a tag connect, also I created the footprint myself. How funny, of all the parts in the world..

@panpan_fan

Heads up for the above message about issue manifesting with certain type of a part.

Could be a coincidence, but could be something.

Here is the link to the datasheet where the part was created from.

Hi @phaggren

It is a known issue when it has hole in the footprint.

Our developers are working on it.

I will keep you updated when we fix this issue.

Thanks again for all information you provide!
