3D Board Outline does not update after Push to 3D

I'm working in EAGLE/Fusion360 for years. The software is getting better but there are some issues. I will try to describe my issue so Fusion can be improved.

  • I have PCB designed in Fusion360 ECAD for example of dimensions 100x50mm.
This was created using MCAD -> ECAD Create Linked PCB based on MCAD sketch, but then I immidiately break link with MCAD in ECAD.
(Not valid design - only for this demonstration purposes:)

  • Using Push to 3D for the first time, creates new 3D instance with outline, copper, components, silkscreen etc fetched from 2D ECAD PCB.

  • Then, I change components location, copper etc and board outline to 100x60mm, save and Push to 3D.

  • 3D model updates everything except board outline, what is very, very weird and produces strange results.

I think there should be "Re-associate Derived Outline" or "Replace Board Outline" checkbox in Push to 3D popup, but I don't have that checkbox:

Also, to get around this I have to break the link and create new 3D PCB, but that creates another issue in Fusion360 - I can not delete the first 3D PCB from directory, so I end up with a lot 3D PCB files in directory - which creates mess. The first PCB states that it is "Not referenced by any other designs":

but despite that - refuses to be deleted:

Hello @fiskusmati ,

I hope you're doing well. Are you working exclusively in Fusion now? If you are jumping between the two then we have more variables to consider. Normal Fusion with the latest ECAD and MCAD workflows shouldn't be causing this. The more details you can provide about your workflow the better.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hello.

Yes, I have switched from EAGLE to Fusion, so currently working exclusively in Fusion

I came to report the same problem, but I see there is already a topic on this.

In my case, this design has always been in Fusion.  I just made a change to the board outline in 2D PCB, and I can't make the change show up in the 3D PCB.  I can see that the polygon pour that is affected by the outline change did update, but the board outline itself did not.

Hello @featherweightaltimeters ,

I hope you're doing well. There have been several changes in in how the 2D-3D interaction is managed. If you defined the board outline in the 3D space then you will not be allowed to edit it in the 2D PCB unless you specifically over-ride it in the 2D PCB. If you defined the 3D PCB first and linked it to the 2D PCB then under normal workflows you should be editing the outline in the 3D PCB.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

I'm doing all of this product design end-to-end, and insights that can drive changes to the board outline might happen while doing the PCB design or the assembly design.   It's too bad that changes can't flow in both directions like they do between the schematic and the board views.  But at least now I know that it can only flow in the original direction.

Hi @featherweightaltimeters ,

I hope you're doing well. So like I mentioned it is possible to change the board outline in the 2D PCB even if it's linked. Fusion just tries to encourage what is the recommended workflow. What specifically are you trying to do? I may be able to give you more insight on how to do it.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

I had a similar problem here for a while. I am glad you took the time to report it with more patience than I did! In my case using the 3D PCB outline tool to push the outline to 2D did not reflect changes in the 2D layout. Something is clearly wrong with the way that the workflow is implemented. I do hope this software becomes professionally usable in the coming year.
