My display is Stuck ....... no grid no design - no nothing

am teaching Fusion 360. On  my teacher podium laptop it just seemed to get weird and display gets stuck. I did many reboots, reinstalled software etc.  Had IT come take a look. My other computers work fine.
It has a AMD Radeon Pro WX3200 card

How does it work when you aren’t connected to an external screen?

If you continue to have the issue I would start by going to the AMD website and downloading the most up to date driver for your card. Don’t do this through Windows Update, but instead go directly to the AMD website.

if that doesn’t help, you could try telling Fusion to use an older version of DirectX. If you need a hand finding that setting, let me know.

thanks,

Hi @SuncoastTechnicalCollege

A few thoughts.

  1. Here are instructions on How to update graphics driver for Fusion 360 in Windows.
  2. Could also try to disable the integrated graphics card.
  3. Here is a link to an article for graphic options in Fusion 360 (including the DirectX setting Kevin mentioned)

Please let us know if these suggestions solve your issue.

all fixed by IT.

I didn't get total details. I had updated the video card 2 weeks ago. That laptop had been very slow and I think it was running off the intel card. I updated the AMD card.    then the freeze happen.   IT told me after a couple of attempts that the 2 cards were fighting each other. She had to fix the intel side.   now its ok again.

If this happens again generally there are settings in the BIOs about which card to use.  Usually the settings leave it up to the application.  I have issues like that with VR on a laptop where the NVIDIA card runs through the onboard card to the HDMI output.  There isn't a great option when your card runs through the internal card for the external display.

If it happens again there might be an option in the AMD "tuner" that lets you default certain operations to certain cards.
