Students struggling to access fusion 360 after successful verification

I have a student who has verified himself to Sheer ID 3 times now. He's still unable to use fusion 360 as a result. It just lets him read files and not much else. I'm in the process of cutting out Sheer ID completely using the admin software available but until then is there any way to help him gain access?

the student can use the 15 day trial- but that's not the solution.  I run into an issue with the students email and our network privacy stuff.  My students cant receive emails from the outside, therefore they dont get a reply from sheer id.  The students may need to use a real email versus their school email if that is the case.

I am having a nightmare to get 360 access . I done the download -I have gave the Education information . I did the downloads and still it has me on the trial . I have sign in so many times . Removed the software and reload the software and still no luck . I sent for help and they did not solve the answer and stop responding .  i am in IT and if this was the way we worked in our department we work have a lot of problems . Not a good service to work with . Not user friendly for Education .

Hi lbell.Potteries,

After the students verify their education status, have they requested a Fusion 360 license? The verification process allows you to access Autodesk products for 1 year, but you still need to request a license for the desired products.
Refer to steps c. & d. on page 7 & 8 in the Fusion 360 Single user install guide .

Let me know if this helps.

Did you read the message? You've just given terrible advice. pages 7 and 8 have already been done. He logs into fusion as you referred and is met with the same message that he can only read files. He's been using Fusion for a year or so and has had to re verify 3 times which all succeeded, but he still cant edit files etc on fusion.

Hi lbell.Potteries,

Sorry for your frustration. A common issue is students not requesting a Fusion 360 license.
For the student, please verify at the top-left of Fusion’s screen, it states Educaiton License? If so, this could be a issue with the student’s role / permission at the Fusion Team and project. Is the student working on their own Fusion Team or did you invite the student to your Fusion Team and Project?
I’d suggest having the student make their Fusion Team active and then make a new project. Can the student create and save a file into this new project. If this fails, please private message me with the email address that the student is logging into Fusion with.

Thanks for your patience as we figure this out.

Just about, the process was very very difficult, myself and the IT team really struggled but we finally got the seats sorted. Too early to tell how much easier its going to be as IT now want to run everything on the cloud instead of locally having it on the machines

Thanks for the update. I'm glad you're  getting the licensing figured out. Note that there is an option to run Fusion 360 online (no install). Here is a link to a document that explains how to run Fusion 360 online.
Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Hope this helps.

I am registering students today and tomorrow and ran into one issue today.  I had a student NOT FOLLOW DIRECTIONS (go figure) and they went ahead and made a NON-educational account.  My question is: can they turn this account into an educational account?  How?

Hi Jeffrey,

Good question. When the student goes through the process to create their Autodesk Education account, their previous commercial account should automatically be converted to the education account.

Please let me know if this helps.

Dan,

it does not seem to be that easy.  The student(s) went to create an educational account, they input their user email and that gets redlined because the account already exists.  You mentioned in your last statement that this can be converted so can you point us in the right direction: How do we change the commercial account to Education?

This is not user friendly at all and ridiculous.   the website autodesk.com/education/support#!  has a video that explains how to renew the user account but what is on the video does not match up to what the user sees when they log onto into the Educational Community.

Hi @jmackniak

Sorry to hear that you are still having issues!

Can I please confirm what type of account your student signed up to with Fusion?

With a standard Autodesk account, any user signing into the Autodesk Education website should have the option to submit education details and verify by clicking “get started” to gain access.

If your student has previously had an education account but needs to re-verify or re-activate it, this is a slightly different process.

If users have paid for a commercial subscription of Fusion prior to getting education access this can also sometimes require an extra step, hence why I am asking what account type he has.

Can I also ask at what stage in the process you are getting the error?

Hi jmackniak,

Can you ask your students to try the following steps to update their Autodesk Account to an Autodesk Education Account?

  1. Go to the Autodesk Education software page
  2. Click Sign In
  3. At this point, the system should notice that you don't have an Education account and ask you to verify your education status.

Please let me know if this is helps.

Most have education accounts (at least trying) but some have also ignored the instructions and just went in and created a 'regular' account.

Here is another one:  Student goes to the education page and log into his account.  When on the page, it even says "Hi xyzname,  Your education license is good until 2/15/23 ."  yet when he opens up the program on his desktop, he is told that his Term has expired.!!??

Hi A couple things they will want to make sure they do. The first is to make sure to click the Fusion 360 download button from the education download portal. You don't even need to wait for the download to finish and can cancel once it starts. Then make sure to log out of Fusion and log back in. Does that get you past the problem?

Hi Jeffrey,

To add onto Kevin's suggestion. Please try these steps:

1. Log into the Autodesk Education software site and on the Fusion 360 product card click:

2. Get product

danbanach_0-1645127058809.jpeg

3. Then click ACCESS (this will grant you a Fusion 360 license).

If this doesn't work, please private message me the student(s) email(s) and I'll look at their account status.
