Still can't figure out how to distribute using pattern function

I want to distribute a bar thats 0.25mm wide on are 145mm area.

This is my calculation:

Width of are to fill: 145 mm

Width of each bar to pattern: 0,25 mm

Total number of bars: 580

0.25*580= 145mm

145-580= 435

435/580= 0,75

0,75+0,25 = 1 mm distance between bars.

It doesn't match up when i enter it the pattern tool where is choose spacing to be set as 1mm and numbers to be 580 copies

Hi @infoYYJRS

Thanks for posting your question. Assuming you want 1 mm between each bar, you can set:

  • Distribution = Spacing
  • Direction = Symmetric
  • Distance = 1.25  [1.25 - .25 (thickness of the bar)]

With the Quantity set to 145, and Distance set to 1.25, the bars fall off the part.

You can also set the Distribution to Extent and the Direction to Symmetric (divide the total distance by 2).

With the Quantity set to 580, there is no gap between the bars.

With this large quantity, set the Compute Type to Optimized.

Does this help?

Makes sense,

I tried to do it in the attached. I just don't get it.
If i have 14,5 cm to fill out with a rectangle that is 0.25mm and have equal space between each it would give me a calculation that looks like this

145/0.25 = 580/2 = 290
Spaces set to 0.5mm

Or is my math wrong?

Hi @infoYYJRS

The 580 / 2 = 290 needs to include the .25mm for the thickness of the bar, which will leave .25mm spacing between the bars.

Not really could you elaborate?

Width of are to fill: 158,5 mm

Width of each bar to pattern: 0,25 mm

Total number of bars: 634

0.25*634= 158,5mm

158,5-634= 475,5

475,5/643= 0,73950

0,73950+0,25 = 0.989502 distance between each bar.

doens't match with what i enter in the spacing field.

Please see my f3d file ...

Hi @infoYYJRS

See if this helps.

  • Width of area to fill = 158.5 mm
  • Width of each bar to pattern - 0.25 mm
  • Total number of bars = 158.5 / 0.25 = 634 [this will have no spacing between the bars]
  • Since you want 0.25 spacing between the 0.25mm bars; Divide tolan number 634 / 2 = 317
  • Answer = 317 bars with a spacing of 0.5mm

To make this problem easier to solve, you could modeling the bar feature so it is 0.375 mm from the left side. This way you don't have to use the symmetric option.

Hi @infoYYJRS

I wanted to check-in and see if my last post helped you understand how to create your rectangular pattern?

Thanks,
