Roles not staying on folders

I've been trying to assign roles to folders in fusion for my students but nothing is staying. I'll assign a student as "reader" in the main folder, or as "editor" to their personal folder therein. But it doesn't "stick". I click assign, the role shows up correctly right then, but if I refresh that page or go back to content and back, it is back to blank with no assigned role.

Also when I choose "reader" as the role when I invite a student to a folder it just loads them in as no assigned role. I'm flummoxed.

Hi @drewblazo

Thanks for the post. You may have assigned your students a Role at the top level project which will cascade down.

Please try the following (see the image below).

  1. Go to Fusion Team.
  2. Ensure the top-level project active.
  3. Select all the students by checking Member/Group.
  4. On the lower-right corner click on Remove Role.

Here is an example on how you could set up your class.

Please let us know if this helps.

That did not solve it this time. I had a similar problem and you posted that it worked perfect then. But this time I can't get it to work at all.

Hi @drewblazo

Is it possible that a Role is assigned at a higher level folder? Subfolders cannot have a different Role than the parent folder.

Thanks,

-Dan

Right. But I can't assign any role at any level. See below. I assign the role of "reader" at the top level of the project. But when I refresh the page, the role is gone. You can see briefly that I do have roles assigned to students from earlier in the school year. So previously it worked.

Hi @drewblazo

Thanks for the video. At the top-level Project, select all the students as stated above and click Remove role as stated below. Even if a role isn't shown, it will force a reset.

If this doesn't solve the issue. Please verify that what Role is assigned at the Fusion team level.

  1. Go to Fusion Team.
  2. On the top-right corner of the screen click on your profile picture.
  3. Click on the Adin tab.
  4. Click on the Members And Roles tab.
  5. Verify that the students are Active and their Role. Students are usually set to Project Contributor.

Let us know what you see.

Thanks,

Ok. So after doing a top-level folder remove-role, the roles all disappeared, but when I refreshed it went back to the hodge-podge of some having no role and some being set to viewer. So nothing changed.

When I checked through the admin tab, the students were a mix of "team member" and "project contributor".

Some of the students who currently have the "viewer" role are marked "team member" and some as "project contributor". So that doesn't seem to differentiate them. All students show as ACTIVE. The student who is in the video clip is marked as "project contributor".

Hi @Hansvanderzee

Sorry that you're having this issue. Can you please give us some additional information?

  1. What version of Fusion 360 are you running? On the top-right corner of Fusion click on the ? > About. The current version is 2.0.15995.
  2. We can see that you have access to multiple Fusion Teams. When you log into https://login.autodesk360.com (this is the Fusion Team you're trying to change the Roles in). Please copy and paste this URL into your reply.
  3. Can you add a screen capture of your folder structure and tell us what student and and folder you're trying to change.

Thanks,

-Dan

I am having same issue as others posting here. I can toggle individually or multi-select and it shows Reader until I hit refresh. They revert back to viewer. Status doesn't seem to affect anything. I have one co-instructor that is a project  contributor and his reverts to viewer as well.

Ideas beyond what has been recommended above?

Thanks,

Hi @acoleman10

Can you tell us what your folder structure looks like? If you have subfolders that you are trying to changes Roles in, ensure that no Role assigned to the parent folder. A subfolders will have the same Role as the parent folder and this can’t be changed.

Please keep us posted.

Hi @acoleman10

Thanks for the screen capture. This shows that your Common_Folder project is a Folder-Level Project. To see the folder structure, in the middle pane, double-click on the Common_Folder project. Then ensure no roles are assigned to a parent folder where subfolders will have different roles. A screen capture of the folders will help that shows the roles.

Thanks,

Dan

Hi @acoleman10

the second screen capture is helpful. This shows at the Project level, you assigned roles. This too will control subfolder roles. At this project level, select the members, and then on the lower-right corner click on Remove Role. Then make a subfolder active and then try to apply a role to a member.

Keep us posted.
