Projects not showing up for students in Fusion 360

I am having an issue with my students not being able to see the projects inside of the team in Fusion 360 desktop.  What I have done:

  • I have made sure that the students have educational accounts and provided them access through the mange section in my teacher's account (the software does show that they have a full educational account).
  • I have invited them to the team (they can see the team in the data panel).
  • I have created a project for them and provided them viewer access to the project and editor access to their student sub folders.
  • The students are able to export their designs, do to the web browser and upload to their student folders.

So the issue is when we refresh the data panel (able to see the team), no projects show up for them. I'm guessing it's something either I did or the school did when they distributed the software. Any thoughts?

Hi @william.craigX82BG

Thanks for the detailed post. I believe the issue is with the Viewer role. The Viewer role only allows the files to be viewed online in Fusion Team. I'd suggest Removing the Viewer role from the Project level. This role transcends down to the folders.

  1. In your Fusion Team, make the Project active.
  2. Change the Show option to Members with role.
  3. Check the option to select all Members.
  4. On the lower-right corner click on Remove role.

Here is what I recommend for assigning roles.

Please let us know if this solves the issue.

Hi @william.craigX82BG

Here is what our QA team found.

  1.  853788XXXXX (PC)
    1. Doesn’t have any role at any level of Project "PLTW IED". This student will need to added to this project.
    2. Does have access to Folder-Level  Project "THS - Tech Drawing"
  2. 858306XXXXX (TM) user has access to 2 FL Projects, one of which is "PLTW IED".

A few questions.

  1. Can you confirm that your students can view their designs on your Fusion Team?
    1. If so, please try to Repairing and Resetting Fusion from the Fusion 360 Utility Service? See: Overview of Reset Fusion 360 Command from Fusion 360 Service Utility. Since you may have locally cached file, when resetting Fusion, I’d recommend checking the options (Keep offline user cache, Keep user credentials).
  2. I the Data Panel, ask your student to try the different Project Filter options.
    danbanach_0-1694455514284.png
  3. Try signing out and back into Fusion.
  4. If the students still can't see their design in Fusion, please take some screen captures of that show the Data Panel for a Student with Editor Role and your Admin Role.

Please keep us posted.

Good evening!

So there is something even more weird that has shown up. One of the computers is letting the student into the project and letting them view their folder that they have editing rights to. He unfortunately left the room before I could catch him and ask questions about it. I will try to track him down tomorrow. I think he may have redownloaded the software onto the computer on his own. I will try to find out tomorrow and will report.

Thanks!

Checked with my students. No fix yet. We uninstalled the software and I reinstalled it. The problem has persisted.

Adding to this. I just had a student log into my computer (which I know works). The problem showed up there. Student was able to see the team but not the projects.

So I'm guessing that the problem is following the student and is not the machine/install?

Hi @william.craigX82BG

Here is what I learned. The following have not opened the email to Join your Team. This would prevent them from saving files. I’ll work on approving them.

Tomi,Moska,Kailey,Jason,Jose,Ryan,Sofiya,Collin,871117,Monica,Jennifer,ty,Delsy,Caelyn,Oliver,Michael,Aidyn,Cortez,Anthony,Carter,Savonah,Connor,Daniel

The following have not created their Autodesk account.

857427, 102698, 899882

I’ll keep you posted.

Hi @william.craigX82BG

I was able to approve these students:

871117, Aidyn, Anthony, Caelyn, Carter, Collin, Connor, Cortez, Daniel, Delsy, Jason, Jennifer, Jose, Kailey, Michael, Monica, Moska, Oliver, Ryan, Savonah, Sofiya, Tomi, Ty

Please ask the students; 857427, 102698, 899882 to open the email that was sent when you invited them to your Fusion Team / Project. Then they'll be prompted to create their Autodesk account.

Please let us know if this solves your issue.

Hi @william.craigX82BG

For the student you worked with today. What is the student's first name and initial for the last name? I'll see what I can find.

Sent you a direct message so I wasn't putting a student's name and email address on the board here.

Thanks!

Hi @william.craigX82BG

Our engineering team asked a few questions.

  1. Can your students see the Fusion files on Fusion Team?
  2. Please try:
    1. Create a new Folder-Level Project named Test Project.
    2. Add a Resources and a Students folder.
    3. Under the Students folder, add a folder for one or two students.
    4. Add a couple files to the folders.
    5. Assign them a Reader Role for the Resources Folder.
    6. Assign the Editor Role to the individuals' folder.
    7. See if the students can open the files in Fusion and which folder they can save the files.
  3. Please ask your IT Admin to ensure that the following are set correctly to allow Fusion to communicate on your school's network.
    1. Ports and domains required by Fusion 360
    2. How to configure proxy server and firewall settings for Fusion 360

Please keep us posted.

Hi @william.craigX82BG

Our engineering team looked at your project and they did not find any issues. Was you IT Admin able to review the following settings?

  1. Ports and domains required by Fusion 360
  2. How to configure proxy server and firewall settings for Fusion 360
  3. Configuring anti-virus software for use with Fusion 360

Please keep us posted.

Sorry for the delay in replying. Things have been crazy here. I have sent the information up the pipeline to see what they say. I will let you know when I hear from them. Also, I have added the other engineer to the project as requested, so hopefully that helps.

On a side note, I noticed that the "Desktop Connector" may not be installed. Would this cause this issue?

Thank you for all of your work o this.

Hi @william.craigX82BG

Thanks for engaging you IT Admin. Our engineer was able to access your project and didn't see any issues.

Great question about the Desktop Connector. It is used to setup a virtual drive, that is used to pass files between different CAD systems and Fusion. This isn't required.

Please keep us posted on what your IT Admin says.

I am actually having this same issue.  The student is able to view their folder online and submit files that way, but cannot access them in fusion.  The only way for him to upload anything is for him to "export" and upload through the browser.  He actually cannot even save files at all in the desktop fusion.  When he tries it says something about synchronizing with the cloud.  He has been assigned the role of reader for the class project folder, and has been assigned editor for his folder.

Our recent try has been to see if they can access outside of the network (at home) and see if everything works correctly. Additionally, I had them create their own personal teams from the online version (was unable to do this from the desktop version inside the network). From inside the school network and in their personal teams, the students are able to work normally. We're still trying to figure out why it works on personal teams and not invited teams inside the network. Good luck and will post when we find a solution.

Side note, Dan has been great with this!
