Where's my Drill during SIM

Anonymous

Hi,

My name is Colin. I have been using CAD for a few years and have just started to use CAM. Creating a solid and drilling holes is easy enough, running the SIM and watching the virtual machine drill away is interesting. I have a problem when I have created an SAT file in my CAD package in that the gcode appears to be OK but when I run the SIM (and it does run) there is no graphic of the drill.

Have I set something wrong? This happens on more than one drawing, so I'm fairly sure that somehow I've turned off the animation.

Anyone help?

Thanks

Colin

Can you get a screen gab of what you're seeing while the sim is running. Is the tool tick box selected.

Nothing looks wrong so I don't know why you're not seeing the tool, are the toolpaths missing as well. One suggest if you use hibernate would be to try rebooting your computer.

As an extra, here is the setup sheet for this part. This may assist.

Can you export the part as an f3d file, if it works on my computer at least we'll know there's something wrong with your install.

Hey Mark,

Sorry I can only export to 3DS, POV, LWO, DAE, STL and SAT.

Thanks for your assistance.

At a push I will recreate the drawing in Fusion 360.

Are you trying to export from Fusion's file menu, you should have the option to export as f3d.

Good Morning Mark,

Sorry I think I must be a tad slow this week, I was exporting from my CAD software!

Please find attached

Colin.

I am sure it's something simple, some setting that I haven't made/checked? Hopefully anyway

I think I have stumbled across the answwer. My material/model is 180,000 mm not 180mm!

There must be a problem in the translation between softwares.

What file format are you importing, I've seen some STP files open 10x too big but I've never heard of any coming in 1000x too big. From the list of file types to listed SAT would be the best to use.

Right, I have managed to get this working. The problem is to do with scale. My CAD drawing is correct in size when viewing it in the CAD software. The problem is either when exporting from Progecad or importing a file into Fusion 360. Not sure which is causing the problem but now I know what to expect. I scale my drawing by 0.001 and hey presto simulation now works.

Thanks for your assistance

SAT is what I have used. I've sent the file to Progecad support to see if that's the problem.

I see Progecad is an AutoCAD clone, does it have templates for different units or can you set $INSUNITS, see this page for info on $INSUNITS. I guess you're using DWG for the transfer, I've found DWG works well getting stuff across from Rhino because you get the 3d parts and all the 2d profiles as well.
