What's the difference between some licenses...

I've used Fusion 360 at home for personnal use. Since I work in a school I have access in my lab at the Educational License. But I use my personnal profil so, when I came back home, I saw that my License has changed and I'm now with the Educational version even at home.

I don't like very much the design for the Education version, but that's not a big deal. I was wondering if there are any important differences between the Educational and Profesionnal License? Or is it just the license and not the software that has changed? But the interface is no longer the same. Is it due to the license or just an update?

Sorry I didn't know exactly where to ask this question, hope I'm in the right place.

Thanks in advance for your answer.

Hi @Anonymous ,

Fusion 360 entitlements and data is all tied to your email address. If you use the same email to log into Fusion at school and at home, you will see the same data and will share the same license. I can see that you signed up for the Fusion EDU license on 9/19.

In terms of "you don't like the design of the EDU version" - what do you mean? Between all entitlements of Fusion 360, there is no difference in the look and feel. It is the same program.  The only differences is what functionality you can use in Fusion 360. There are two large differences here between a "personal" license and an educational license. The EDU license grants you to use all Fusion 360 functionality (with the exception of Generative Design), and the personal has limitations described in this chart.

The other thing to keep in mind is the Educational license is meant for students for educational purposes only. It is not to be used to make profit off of. The personal license also has its own eligibility rules found here.

Let me know if that answered your question.

Hi James,

thanks for the answer.
When I was talking about the design, well I'll give you an example.
This picture was with my other version (startup License)

And this is what I see now. I'm talking about the icons and the menu. But as I said it is not a big deal, if everything works like the other one.

My question is if one day I might not work anymore in that school, will I be able to use Fusion 360 as I did before?

I'm using Fusion 360 mainly for open projects in fablab or personnal project.

I don't know what is Generative Design.

Thanks again and yes you've answered my first question. 🙂

Hi @Anonymous ,

Ahh, I see what you are saying. Those are your shortcut settings. They are saved per your account. You can customize them however you want, but it is saved based on who you are signing in with. Since you are using 2 different emails, you are seeing 2 different customizations. All the same tools are there - you'd just have to build the shortcuts again.

Yes - if you get rid of your EDU account, you can still use Fusion on your personal. Just note that each account has access to it's own cloud data. EDU account (email 1) has its own data. Startup account (email 2) has its own data.

Thanks,

@James.Youmatz @Anonymous On closer inspection, there are two different versions in use. The top image shows an older build of Fusion and the bottom image shows a more current (if not the current) build of Fusion. So I'm guessing at the school they are using a lab build, which doesn't auto-update until the IT people push the update. That is why you are seeing differences between how those two installs look and why you may think there are differences between the different licenses.

If you want to confirm what I am saying, click the help drop down and choose "About". You will see the software build number for each and one will be newer than the other.

Hope that helps,

Kevin

Thanks for your answer.

In fact the first image is the other  version since I'm using on email everything change at home like the one at school. I did not want to change my email 'cause I wanted to keep all my file on the cloud.

Well if you are saying this is the new look that's ok.

And if I can go back for personal use one day, I'm glad to know that too.

Thanks again to both of you.

I'm new to learning Fusion 360 and recently downloaded the Educational License as I'm a Tech Ed teacher. I've been trying to upload new tools and machines; however the menu options at he top are greyed out and don't work. Can someone provide some assistance as to why I'm not able to access these features?
