What's the best way to use attached canvas with an image that has perspective?

I love Fusion but I miss SketchUp's "Match Photo" feature that allowed me to model anything from a photo even if the image wasn't take perpendicular to one of the origin planes.

This is nice because you could, for instance, recreate the room in this photo and then add another feature to the wall with a perspective that matches the photo.

I'm doing some wood art pieces, and a feature like match photo would be especially useful in sizing art to fit a room.

Anyway, I can tell from the Forums that Fusion doesn't have this yet, so my question is what's the best way to do this manually or otherwise? How could I best attach a canvas like the above to build a 3d model that matches the photo?

Thanks!

  1. Put the canvas in a component.
  2. Rotate the component until the perspective is the way you want it.
  3. Create a sketch on one of the origin planes.
  4. Draw the profiles.

For perspective references, I keep them outside Fusion, adjusted to focus on the area of concern.    I then build a best guesstimate of some aspect in Fusion, adjusting the view to match the photo reference, and create a New Named View.   There after, as the part develops, I can revert to the View and flutter tap the Fusion icon on the task bar (Windows) to flicker between the photo ref and the part.     The more photo references, the better.    Were the ref's in Fusion as Canvases, I'd have to confront moving the Canvas relative to the part and the Canvas moving off perpendicular when attempting to align the view- in other words, an impossible target- and, as the ref's stack up, be burdened with the performance liability of all those Canvases, something product developers have warned against.

For the actual adjustment, I put markers on the screen at 2 key extents on the photo and adjust the view to fit the target(s).     Usually, my fingers are the markers- with the photo on screen, I place the fingers of one hand and use the other to tap the Fusion Icon and adjust the view.

It sounds goofy.    It works.

If you are familiar with using the feature in Sketchup, then I see no reason not to use it.

Unless you want to re-create the entire bedroom you could still try to create a rough outline and geometry and maybe even the main pieces of furniture for your artwork matching the spatial circumstances in Sketchup and then import the result of that into Fusion 360 and use it as a guideline to create the artwork there.
