What am I doing wrong...

I've only being learning F360 (version 2.0.7402) for a couple of weeks  so am pretty green with regards to the software...
I've been watching lots of tutorials on Youtube and Skillshare and am able to follow along without too much difficulty. I had thought I was making pretty good progress but have come across a situation that has me scratching by head. I was trying to draw a sphere with a uniform slice out of the middle...
I've drawn a sphere and I then sketched a centered circle of the same radius. When I then try and extrude the circle sketch to create the slice, one half of the sphere just disappears and I'm left with half a sphere, minus the thickness of the extrude. This happens no matter what 'direction' I choose.
However, after playing about with the different settings in the Extrude dialog, I found that if I set the Taper angle to such a degree that it extends beyond the boundaries of the sphere, when I then click ok I'm left with the exact result I was trying to achieve. The sphere has a perfect slice cut right through the middle, both planes of the 'slice' parallel.

Is the 'disappearing' of one half of the sphere when not using a taper the expected behaviour, or am I screwing up the process somehow?

I suspect that this is the same underlying problem as reported here:  cutting-cube-from-sphere-issue .  This bug has not yet been fixed.

Why not model as mirrored body since they would be disjointed anyhow?

See Attached.

Thanks Jeff.

Whilst not being thankful for bugs, I'm thankful it 'appears' to be not be because of anything I've done incorrectly.

Thank you for your reply.

I wasn't specifically trying to create any particular shape but rather just toying with the available options and generally trying to get a better understanding of the software.

Anyway, thank you again for your time and for the link and example file. I've subscribed and will be taking a closer look at your videos.

Cheers

Unfortunately there are not very many videos there for beginners.

I have a lot of more complex stuff to get posted before I can work my way back to beginner stuff.
