web tool difficulties

Hey,

I was working on a design and was able to successfully create a small part of the web I wanted but when I click any other lines contained within the sketch it gives me an error saying "avoid self-intersecting inputs and try again". Considering that I was able to generate webbing using at least some of the sketch geometry I'm unsure as to why I'm unable to use the rest. If anyone has come up against this or would like to take a look at my project that'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

File>Export and then Attach your *.f3d file here.

Create dummy file that exhibits the same behavior if your data is proprietary.

(Often when I suggest this - the user discovers the solution in the attempt to reproduce the behavior in the dummy.)

Please attach your model so the forum users can easily help you out.  When asking questions about a particular model, you will get quicker and more relevant answers if you attach your model, screen captures and/or screencasts.

We've seen this part before. This is a tutorial?

In any case, the way the diamonds are drawn is causing issues.

I see this as a series of lines tilted one way, and a matching series of lines tilted the other way. However your sketch has several "diamond" shapes that have lines crossing each other. And as the error states, you can't have them crossing over each other.

Try drawing the web lines as individual sketches for the lines that tilt in either direction. It doesn't hurt to fully constrain the sketch too. The web, as you have it sketched, might fail if the design changes size because it's not constrained and parametric design requires fully defined/constrained sketches.

I'd attach an image but the forum is rejecting images right now.

This is logged as a bug now. The web command should allow for selection of individual lines without chaining them together. One way around this is to use two sketches, or break the lines where they meet at the boss locations in the middle.

Thanks for being so responsive!

Yeah, I was working from a print from the titans of CNC website. Within the
tutorial the lines are actually crossed but then the instructor is able to
create the web. Thanks for your input! I’ll go back in and re-tool
accordingly 🙂
