Warning on Extrude - Reference Failures

Hi, 

I am going through my model to eliminate all warnings. Is there a video / webinar or online reference document on how to resolve warnings and debug any models? 

Anyhow, what I have come across now is the warning below for an extrude/press pull where it cuts out through that panel. I am puzzled what the reason might be, respectively, how to resolve it.

 For Chain Faces try selecting extend.

Great that worked. Unsure why, but it solved it
