What is the setting that causes the view to flip around to a certain position as soon as the "Shift+center wheel" is depressed? It is driving me crazy on this model and a couple others out of a couple hundred in my library. I can't seem to find a setting that sounds like it.

The function "normally" of the Shift + Middle Button (wheel) is normally Orbit and the model should not move until you drag the mouse.  Please note two things, does the Orbit icon light up when you press these, icon shown below, and what do you have set in your Preferences for Pan, Zoom, Orbit Shortcuts.

Not sure if that icon lights up but it does appear on the screen. I never noticed the "pan, zoom, orbit" in the menu. It is set to Fusion.

Strange thing is after the initial post I tried to recreate the action and it behaved as 99% of the files normally do with no flip. I swear my computer and fusion do not get along.

I think I found something. I was able to recreate the flip most of the time from top view only. I had it set to constrained orbit. I changed it to free orbit and have not been able to recreate the flip.

That makes sense since Constrained Orbit normally seeks one of the axis to orbit about that may have caused the flip.  Great, if you have solved your issue please mark it as the Solution to remove it off the forum board and allow others to find it if they have a similar issue.

I found this post when having the same issue, for the next person that finds this post, this issue can be resolved by changing your 3D mouse preference to "Legacy". It is discussed in detail in this post.
