Vertical Text On a Pipe Issue

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi, I need to write a brand name on my pipe shaped design but unfortunately I can't write vertically. Putting letters one by one is not a wise solution I think. I am using Tinkercad for quick solution (again putting one by one)  but as you know Tinkercad is not as professional as Fusion 360. On the other hand, after putting the letters on the pipe, I need to round their edges that standing on empty space due to pipe curve to create pipe and letters integrity.

What can I do ?

can you add some more details here? Are you talking about a vertical string of letters where each letter is itself oriented horizontally? Like: A B C D E F ? If so, then there is no easy way to do this in Fusion today. You'd have to place each letter individually.

Sorry, the formatting got botched.  I meant this:

This type of orientation is not possible in Fusion today.

It's not hard to do this, but it does take a few more steps than you would think necessary.

  1. Create the pipe.
  2. Create a sketch for the text.
  3. Project the pipe body to the sketch.
  4. Create a construction line along the center of the pipe axially.
  5. Draw a construction line perpendicular to the center line with one end coincident with the center line for the start point of the first letter.
  6. Use a rectangular pattern with the perpendicular line as the base and the number of letters (including spaces) for the count.
  7. Create the first letter away from the previous geometry.
  8. Draw a short construction line (or a point) starting at the midpoint of the bounding rectangle's bottom edge.
  9. Create a coincident constraint between this line and the first letter location in the rectangular pattern.  This will place the letter centered on the pipe.
  10. Repeat for each letter.

Hi Mr Becko872,

No, there is no easy way :-).

Have look at:

and related:

How many bikes do you have?

Use Illustrator or Inkscape to create the text, export a e.g. svg file and import it into Fusion 360

I'll still say it's easy, just convoluted Smiley Happy

Easy - yes. But compared to having the option to press return in a text box.... not efficient.

But still faster than having to repairing svg fonts imported from Inkscape Smiley Happy

You have a point here. But the question is - does it matter on a pipe?

.svg file created in Inkscape.svg file created in Inkscape.svg file imported into Fusion360.svg file imported into Fusion360

When I try that Fusion 360 gives a warning and converts the text back to horizontal.......any ideas?

Why bother with Inkskape when it's so easy to do in Fusion 360?

Simply create a rectangular array of (fully constrained)points, then use the midpoint constraint to move the letters into position. (Note, I use a line and a point in the screencast.  Only the point is necessary.)

BTW... its 2025 now! Fusion is still not able to import that kind of Text from SVG´s correctly, nor is it able to create such text elements...
