Using project to surface to wrap sketch around body for extrusion purposes.

Hi all, I was hoping to get help with a problem I'm having using the project to surface command.

I'm trying to create a pattern that wraps around the body, so that all 4 sides will be connected and even, so that I can extrude these sections.

My goal is to have a section like this:

After using the project to surface command, I end up with this sketch, which is theoretically exactly what I want. However, I can't seem to use these lines for anything practical, like extrusion, cutting etc.

The segment of the sketch projected onto the flat face parallel with the sketch plane can be selected just fine:

However, when I go to click on the other segments of the sketch, it won't allow selection; it just selects the face instead.

Any ideas on how to approach this problem? Alternatively, if project sketches isn't the way to approach this problem, any alternative methods?

Thanks!

projecting a sketch to a surface rarely has any practice use in fusion.  what your probably looking to do is perform a split face on the handle, and then push/pull the resulting faces in (or out).

but before proceeding, i would suggest putting a curvature comb on those splines.  what your going to find is that you've create horrible curvature quality by using so many points.  that degraded curvature quality will  effect your ability to perform additional operations down the road.  the splines I see in that pic can all be drawn with 2 or 3 control points, maybe 4 in some cases. the resulting curvature quality will be much better.

Thanks for that! Yes I ended up just splitting the handle with another body, then extruded these faces using the offset command.
