Use a pattern as a combine tool?

Is there a way to use a pattern as a combine tool? I want to use the pattern and not the bodies, so if the quantity of the pattern changes then it will be reflected in the combine feature.

That would be useful, it would be nice to have a join option in mirror as well. One for the Ideastation I think.
