Uploading and then splitting a STEP file.

Hi,

I have imported a STEP file.  I have made a number of changes including inputing a component that I seperaterly drew (gear box).   I have two areas of help:

Why can I not split the step file?   It presents itself to me as a body, I was expecting the "split body" function to work.

Secondly I do not have a timeline on this design.   Is this a reflection that the design started from a STEP file or have i made a basic error?

Many thanks in advance.   I ask many questions on this forum and always grateful for the help I receive.

Imported geometry is always imported with the timeline disabled, for good reasons.

However, if you need to make parametric changes, yu can always enable the timeline.

Right-click on the root of the browser and and select record design history.

Splits fine for me.  Take a screenshot and show exactly where you want to split it and what you're using to do the split.

Addressing the Split Body part of your question, I do not see any issue.  I assume you mean the main locomotive model.  I did a Split Body right down the center of the locomotive to demonstrate.

Thank you.....you are correct - I tried the splitting examples you used and they worked.   But when I ty and solit along the footplate I get a different result.   I have attached 2 screen shots, one with the splitting command and the second the error.

Many thanks in advance and than you for the help thus far.

It is very hard to tell exactly where your Split Body cutting plane is located from your screen capture.  I did find a plane, in the general area that did not intersect and caused an error.  I then created an Offset Plane from that plane by 0.001 inches, either direction, which split the body without issue.  You probably never will find that 0.001 inches in your model.
