Update the description of a component (inside Component Properties)

Hello all!

Is it possible to update the description of a component (inside Component Properties) based on a variable value?

I mean, using parametric design where expressions can be calculated and updated for different variables values, I wish I could have a Parts List inside a drawing to be updated if my design variables are changed.

Yeah, Its possible

1.Just switch to design workspace

2. Right click on the component

3. select properties

4. Then modify the description

In addition to that you can modify part number and part name too. Any changes made here will reflect back in the drawing workspace. Just update the design, then you are good to go.

I don't think that's what the OP was looking for. I think he's looking to set the component description via a parameter.

Your suggested procedure is not exactly what I want to achieve.

My goal is to use variables from Parameters in the field Description under Properties of a given component. From what I've tried to search, It's not possible at the moment.

Sadly, no.  you can't use a parameter in the description.   Would be nice.  I wonder if you could talk one of the API folks to write an add-in for that? hmmm...

this is a missing feature.  It is COMMON practice to add cut length to the description so that it shows in the BOM (parts list) in your drawings.  There is not a way to reference a parameter in the description and when you change the parameter value, you will also have to manually change each and every description of various parts that are based on that parameter if you want to have the value updated.  This is very inconvenient and would be a great feature for the team to add to the product.
