Unnecessary material being generated on preserve geometry.

Hello,

Is there a way to remove the unnecessary material on the preserve geometry or will it be automatically removed once I start the generative designer? 

I have tried rounding the edges of the starting shape but it does't make a differnece. 

Would appreciate any input.

I am replying your question after long, so in case if anyone reads may find it useful.

The excessive material being generated in preserve geometry can be edited afterwards by form editing tools.

But in case if you do not want it to be there in firstplace, you can put there obstacle geometry, for eg something like half cylinder.
