Unable to upload Solidworks 2015 models

I am having a consistent issue with uploading Solidworks 2015 part files.  The upload fails every time.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled Fusion 360.  If I save the file as a IGES it uploads fine.

Any help would be appreciated.  Without this capability I will not be renewing my subscription to Ultimate 360.

Are the files that fail assembly files (SLDASM)? Are you also uploading all of the referenced part files (SLDPRT) with the assembly file at the same time?

Thanks,

I don't think that solidworks 2015 file format should pose a problem at this point in the release cycle. I can verifty this with the autodesk translation team and get back to you.

Is it possible that the part is a derived part file and has a link to another part file? I've seen this in a previous case with a PRT (Creo) file. You may be able to use the Pack and Go feature within SW to collate all  referenced files into a single directory.

Could you share an example part file with me?

Feel free to email it to nathan.chandler@autodesk.com.

Thanks,

Ok, thanks I would appreciate it.  It is a plain single file, it isn't a derived part and it has no external references.  I have included a link (the uploader wouldn't allow .sldprt files) to a sample file that also failed to upload.

I just tested that file in a couple different programs (Inventor, Inv. Publisher, Alias, & Showcase) and I am getting failure messages across the board in those applications.

I did discover one odd thing in Fusion 360.

If I upload through the Data Panel command, then the upload fails.

If I upload throught the A360 Dashboard, the file uploads successfully. A 3D preview is generated so that I am able to view the file. There isn't anything too complex about the model itself as far as I can tell. Is there anything special about this particular file?

At this point, if I open Fusion 360 and look at the Data Panel, the solidworks file is listed there. I can right click on the SW file and select Create Fusion Design. Typically this will convert it into a design Fusion can use. However, this does not seem to produce any resutls! So it can be viewed, but not imported.

Are there any other examples of SW files failing to import?

I will escalate this issue to the development staff for further review and check back with you.

Thanks,

Thanks for confirming. I made that file in about 1 minute as an example and nothing is special in any way. I tried multiple files of varying complexity with the same result. It definitely has something to do with it being a Solidworks 2015 model because if I save the file as an IGES or STEP it uploads and converts to a Fusion file just fine.

I just had a similar problem uploading several solidworks files. I was uploading from fusion and it showed me that the upload failed. WHen I checked in a360, it all looked fine. When I did the translation, it worked but very slowly. I just passed my info and this thread on to the development team

At this point we don't support SWX 2015 but are working on supporting it.  Will get back to you on a timeframe shortly.

I wanted to give this thread a bump.  I haven't heard about a timeline when this functionality is supposed to exist.

Solidworks 2015 files should be working in Fusion 360.

Are you having trouble with 2015 or 2016 files?

Thanks,
