Unable to rename/change appearance bodies

I'm currently creating a laser cut chess board out of PMMA. However I can only change the first layer.

The three bodies beneath the "board" itself i can't rename or change appearance, only with the default material or if i only change faces. When I try to rename the bodies it just changes it back to Body2/3/4 after half a second.

Another issue I encountered is when trying to render it: From below it looks good, but looking from the top the model is completely broken when I use a ground plane. Without it looks fine, the render is still terrible but thats probably the material properties.

I would really appreciate any help 🙂

Well I managed to fix the design again by re-extruding the bodies, but id like to know what the cause was since i had this issue before

Hi,
For rendering it basically depends on config.  of your Laptop or desktop, you are using.

hard to address the first question with out a model.

for the rendering, you are seeing reflections from the render environment.  even though you have solid color set for the background, the "lighting", ie the photo used for the lighting environment, still refelcts on surfaces.  It appears you have an outdoor scene for this one.  I usually use photo booth because of this type of thing.

on a side and unrelated note, you can add pics inline with your posts using standard copy/past (ctrl-c/ ctrl-v) or by using the insert pic tool-
