Two instances of a component, but at different scales?

When drawing models of real 1:1 objects, I find it useful to have one full-sized drawing, and one scale drawing (1/29, in my case) in the same project file.  When I can see the impact of my changes in both instances of the component, it helps me to find a balance between fidelity to the prototype, vs the minimum thickness requirements of 3d printing.

This works well for me in Sketchup, but I am struggling to find a way to accomplish it in Fusion 360.  Can anyone tell me what I'm wanting is possible?  And if so, how?

You can make another instance of a component and scale it differently as long as you use 'Paste New' rather than 'Paste':

Make sure your model is a Component, rather than a Body. ('Create Components from Bodies' when you right-click the body in the model tree)

Select the component in the model tree and press Ctrl-C.

Right-click anywhere and choose 'Paste New'.

Use the move panel to move the new instance to a different position to the original.

Using Modify/Scale, select the new instance and scale it down.

I used this workflow and was able to rollback, modify the original instance, then roll forward again and have the changes propogate through to the scaled instance, whilst being able to view both that and the unscaled original together.

If you use paste new you'll have an independent component with no link to the original component.

Updates to the original components are not reflected in the paste-new-component.

If you want the geometry of the copied and scaled component to update with changes in the original component then instead of copy/pasting a component, create a new and empty component and then copy the body from the first component into the second component. Then scale the second component.

If you want to add features to the first component then roll the timeline back to before the copy-paste operation for the body.
