turning solid lines in to dashed lines and/or construction lines in a drawing

When I create a drawing from a body, I can't seem to figure out what I have to do turn the solid lines into dashed lines.

Hello @Anonymous,

Thanks for writing to us. Unfortunately currently in drawings it is not possible to change the line type for body edges. It is in our near future road map and may come up in future releases. Said that, it would be great if you can share with us, the example of which solid edges you are trying to covert to dashed ones.

Regards,

One example that I would use this feature for is for preparing drawings for design patents. Design patents require dashed and solid lines, dashed lines for any features that aren't being claimed in the patent, and solid lines for anything being claimed.

Hello,

I have come across this exact issue also when trying to prepare drawings for patents - can you tell me is there any progress on this?

Many thanks,

Emma.

Id like to ultimately engrave a dotted or slashed line on a model. Has there been any progress with this.

Cheers

Exactly. This is a must have feature. In my opinion, the Drawing panel is most worse and limited part of Fusion 360. It's a 2D drawing panel Autodesk folks! How can we not have dashed lines for body outlines ? And then are no options for grid view, layered PDF export, custom line weights, precise positioning etc. I always have to export the drawing into some other CAD softwares as PDF to get the documentation finally done.

So sad there is no progress on adding these features 😞

We should be able to turn any solid body outlines to dashed ones individually and also have custom line weights for them.

I have a use case which would benefit from dashed lines, similar to what AutoCAD R12-2010 had...

Consider a laser cutter when cutting paper or fabric stock: A dashed line can be used to allow one to easily fold the paper or fabric, aka perforations.  To draw a repeating line with the pattern tool would be a workaround, however very tedious.  So, this dashed line should render via Sketch > Export DXF as a regular line that one could use to issue the laser speeds and power to cut on.

Hello,

I am enjoying the sheet tool to design cardboard boxes.

Is there a way of creating a dashed line for perforation in the cardboard box design?

Many Thanks

Sure, the most likely workaround is to use the "rectangular or circular pattern" tool.

Create a single perforation, then pattern it...

All you can do right now is exporting the drawing and using a different application to turn the lines into dashed lines. I usually convert the drawing to DXF from F360, then convert them to DWG using an online converter (CloudConvert) and then import it to Illustrator. This preserves the appearance and contents of the drawing.

I am forced to save my drawing as a DXF, and then open in NanoCad free version and sort out the linetypes.

This is no that helpful. a rough timeline would be better then just
pointing me to a generic sheet

Hi,

1. I am not an AD employee and I am not responsible for the roadmap.
2. there is no roadmap schedule, only an approximate (colored) order.

This thread has been around a minute, so I'm going to assume that the roadmap eventually got there.

For me, I'm able to switch lines back and forth through the following:
1. Edit the sketch.
2. Click on the line you need to be dotted.

3. In the 'Sketch Palette' click the 'Linetype' -> 'Construction' option to turn it on/off

Hi,

The question is not about sketches but about the representation in drawing mode.
