Trying to make a mold, need to delete tire

Would like the STL I imported to "cut as I delete it or remove it so the two mold halves I made show the negative...  have my guide plane, separated the halves into bodies... Not sure how to delete the tire and have it cut into the two halves.

Thanks!

I don't think you're going to have much luck as long as that tire is a triangulated mesh.

You're going to have to use some other software to convert it into a quad mesh first.

I think.

@TrippyLighting?

Is there a reason you are attempting to use coarsely faceted planar triangular mesh to represent curved faces?

Can you Attach the original (*.stl file)?

Here it is.  It was given to me, have not reduced...   Its not letting me attach...

I've printed the tire with my SLA printer and it turns out very nice, just trying to avoid doing a mold the old school way!

Here you go (see Attached).

Next time I would request *.STEP rather than stl file.

CADWhisperer,   Can you tell me why scale changed?  It's huge now.  Can you tell me which factor you increased it by so I can get it back to original size?

Thanks

Oops, I didn't pay proper attention to Units.

Frankly, I think it would be faster to simply model this part correctly from scratch - then the mold creation would be trivial.

If you remodel the part then I can create a video on how to create the mold.

What do I have to do to "remodel the part?"   Would Fusion 360 or Meshmixer be capable of doing this?   I found a way to do it with Meshmixer, but much harder to add things to the mold to index it.

It would not make logical sense to use MeshMixer to model this part.

If you examine MeshMixer geometry - you will not find any arcs or curved faces (surfaces), only lines and planar surfaces.

I recommend starting by going through the Fusion tutorials.
Create your first sketch (for Revolve) and then File>Export and Attach your *.f3d file here.

This image shows a 360° Revolve, but actually I would probably do a "pie piece" add the tread feature and then Pattern.

How is your Revolve coming along?

Are you ready to add the tread?
