Trying to create a personalised keyring...need help with text please

Hi All,

I'm new to Fusion 360 and have just bought my first 3D printer; a Prusa Mini. I want to create a personalised keyring using separate letters, rather then letters on a background plate, but am unsure how to use the text feature properly. I need to move an individual letter together so they join in printing. I've searched the internet but can't seem to find anything suitable. Can anyone lend a hand and give me some advice?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Not sure what your reply meant. I can't attach an attempt as it is meaningless without some guidance (unless I'm misconstruing your answer!).

In that case I recommend that you put this project aside for a day and go through the Tutorials to become familiar with Fusion.

First you will probably model the letters you wish using the Text command in a model sketch.  You will then Extrude them to create the 3D letters.  Second you create a sketch to add the joining area between the letters and then Extrude that to Join the letters together.  I have attach a simple model so you can use the timeline to trace my process.  Open the file, and drag the indicated bar back and forth to see the process.  Do not forget to make the sketches visible in the browser.  If this is what you want and you cannot figure it out, click on my name and send me a private message ask me what you need.

Hi @darrenkarp

What we mean by asking the your file is to see what you have done so far. If you get stuck at some specific point, we can give a more precise assistance.

Anyway, as you don't want a backplate joining all the letters from behind, you will have to call the Text tool once for each letter and then drag the letters.

Or draw a thin rectangle to joint the letters.

We totally understand the temptation to get to "play" with the new tool.

But it would indeed be a very good idea to complete one of the tutorial courses in the Learn & Support section of this forum. I promise that you won't regret it!

To help along with a specific project and take the edge of the immediate urge to model something right now, it might be a good idea if you can provide a hand sketch of what you're after, perhaps with a few key dimensions.  Then we can show you in a screencast.
