i am drawing a vise. and am having trouble getting the sliding joint to work.

it has been awhile since i have used any joints and grounding.

could someone take a look and give me a push in the right direction.

thanks.

i am trying to get the black tube to slide in the red tube. and all the other components should stay stationary with the red fixed tube/

i want to get this solved before moving on to putting the screw in the vise and the jaws.

thanks brian.

hopefully my upload of the file works

I have not found anything amiss, black tube slides, all other stuff is stationary.

You don't have Joint limits, but as long as the minimum setting is smaller than the maximum setting the Slide Joint will work Ok.  Try setting -2 and then +2 and then Animate Joint will work for you.

Am I the one who is missing something?

Odd, when I animate the joint, the red tube slides, all the other pieces
remains stationary.

hopefully attached is a screencast of whats happening.

i do still need to add limits. but i have to put a screw thread thru the pieces and decide on the travel limit.

thanks for the input. i just cannot get the joint to move correctly for me

Ok, Animate Joint, (my mistake) is just a preview, and I get the same,

Animate Model is the correct method.

File > View > Reset to Default Layout.

Not seen it often, but usually fixes it.

And Sorry, but you wont need the Slider, when the model is finished, it will be a Cylindrical with the nut and screw, tied back with Rigid Groups, with a Motion Link.
